This drama is indeed a moody art film stretched to 16 hours, so it’s not typically self-engaging but instead requires you to follow the lead and dive into the dullness of the characters as its theme. Don’t expect to enjoy it, or try to find a point or meaning, it’s just meant to be felt like a mood, that’s how it can be experienced well. The character’s internal monologues that seem poetic and the OSTs add more to the dark gray feeling of the drama as it unfolds. It’s not for you, if you are not looking to try a taste, but want something to just cheer you up. After all, as the title itself suggests, it’s a story of disqualified humans, characters realising how wrong they have lived their lives.
Watching the first ep makes me realise how deeply funny a parody Gintama manga/anime is. It even starts with same introduction as this drama, with the arrival of outsiders of foreign lands into the late Edo period Japan. Most of the characters from this Shinsengumi drama are actually parodied in it, all really funny interpretations.
That’s why I think the older one was Jin Seol-Ran not Jin Bu Yeon(the young one) The older one had a totally…
Or they’re just trying the prophecy trope of history repeats itself. As the king keeps stressing that the one born under the King’s star will return, so with him a priestess will also return. They’ll probably draw a parallels between SeoGyoung-JinSeolRan and JangUk-JinBuYeon.
Also……. Crown Prince has taken the news that The Queen is a soul shifter and the real queen is being held…
That’s how Royal families are, even in sageuk Kdramas. The Queen is also the regent of the king and represents the influence of her family on Kings decisions, while the prince is always someone who comes to threaten that power of the queen by becoming the king’s proxy instead of the queen. So they always try to bring each other in control. That’s how even chaebol families are in Kdramas, Greed and politics makes a mess of the family.
I am just sad that the of season 1 is so close and by the looks of it we are going to get a cliffhanger and no…
I don’t think it will be a cliffhanger, just some yet unanswered questions and unresolved issues that will be wrapped up to the climax in the next season. Kdramas writers know how to end a series, even if there’s a second season, especially the writers of AoS are fully capable of giving a good season 1 ending.
Jin BuYeon finally shows herself to Naksu and it was such a boss moment for her, like with her explaining what her priestess power had unleashed when united with the ice stone, and then goes on to very mysteriously let Naksu make a choice about however to use the ice stone. It’s like back seat coaching tips like how Master Lee does to JangUk. Hints that Jin BuYeon is going to be as much a legend.
ParkJin is usually already blocking every attempt of JinMu, but in this episode 17 he was badass, willing to hold all clan leaders and the Royal family hostage as he declared open war if anyone tried to take the ice stone outside Songrim’s boundaries! Loved. It.
This has become one of my favourite J-dramas, I loved the fantastic story of different characters woven around with so much exposure to the professional world of real estate brokering. It’s like opening your eyes to a world you might not rather get to experience otherwise.
Literally the best experience of a J-drama among those I’ve watched so far! Samurai Sho was amazingly memorable for me in his portrayal of a psychopathic “home tutor”. Recommend.
So I wanted to know should i watch this because I saw some comments regarding ml in the earlier episodes i dont…
It’s more like the ML in the series represents the quirks of and difficulties in the love life of an autistic person because he is a normal but very open minded person. And It’s not just the ML, all main characters are deliberately shown with their impact on the FL’s life, it’s just overall a very protagonist perspective storytelling trope. The ML only seems to be particularly emphasised as drama viewers are more of a suckers for romance while this series is more of a case by case episodes exploring days in the life of a quirky FL. Nevertheless worth a watch.
It was so good, last two episodes brought back the same good features of the script that made this show so charming in the first few, a full circle. Worth recommending, so a full 10 from me.
It's such a great find to note that ALL parent characters in this series have the same name as the actors playing them!! So they've been calling themselves by their actual names.
Probably not. Samshin or Sanshin is a more canon deity in korean folk culture meaning “mountain god” which…
Not all Samshin in kdramas are goddesses. Samshin is a regional guardian spirit. For example my roommate is a gumiho has Go KyungPyo as a male cat form Samshin. In lovers of the red sky Samshin is a butterfly lady, in tale of the Ninetailed the male lead is a gumiho- a fox spirit who was entitled to have once been a Samshin as recalled in his past.
