Main character was supposed to be reincarnation of the former senior who died, but now here at the end they made…
Maybe, but it was pretty clear even if they weren't allowed to state it that he was the reincarnation of the senior master. There's no mistaking it. The dude (the conscious) came straight out from inside him. And more than likely went back.

Someone is talking about Douban comments? LOL, guess they don't know that Douban is getting less reputable due…
You are always here being defensive over him. It's clear you're his dedicated fan but that doesn't mean anyone else can't criticize him if he wasn't up to par.

Is there a separate reason why transmigration wouldn't have been approved for release? Or do you think it's just…
Censorship for sure. Reincarnation and transmigration seem to be a no for China. Dramas have to either completely omit it, or do it vaguely/subtly (like Xu Kai's Once Upon A Time In Lingjian Mountain).

He is. The censorship just couldn't allow the outright mention of it.

I was late, but the second I saw Xu Kai genuinely describe Jing Tian's character (...which is Jing Tian, lol) as "beautiful beyond measure" in an interview directly to her face, I was sold. The rest of what I've seen just added to the fact that this is my most anticipated Xu Kai CP.

Title Ancient Love Poetry Spoiler
I also honestly felt that the drama should not have brought back ALMOST all of the dead characters in the end…
Bai Jue is powerful as hell. Makes sense he's the reason a few characters get revived/reincarnated imo.

He was described as "ice cube" means he doesn't bother to react to anything that is not his concern and his concern…
He went through grueling training during his childhood and has been isolated (not by choice, judging by the smack talk the soldiers were doing in that one flashback where it seems his overall rank, power, and demeanor made him appear unapproachable, so he personally avoided people due to their judgments...I imagine being called Ice Cube Bai wasn't a True Gods term for him). He has almost zero social experience. All he knew was duty and how to be responsible. I personally feel that's because Ancestral God had a specific role for him. That's why he's near in power to that of the God of Chaos.

In retrospect, his decisions throughout the entire drama when you take into consideration how he was raised, makes sense. Especially when this is his first experience to such a powerful emotion as love.

who is the strongest, Shang Gu or Bai jue ? it's ok with spoilers
I think the drama does a good job of showing how powerful Bai Jue is considering in every battle he's the one depended on, and did so many things to himself (and to others) that only someone that powerful could pull off (and survive doing so). The fact that the narrative goes out of its way to somehow, someway, debilitate him by him damaging his core spirit (which always concerns Shang Gu) speaks for itself. In the big battles, he's not always at his "full True God power", lol. That means technically, IF he was at full power, the threat of the story wouldn't be much of one.

I heard that in the novel, his power is equal or comes close to the God who wields Chaos power. I think even Shang Gu herself at some point calls him the most powerful God of all three realms after he feels guilty about Tian Qi in the drama.

I think Ancestral God created/birthed with such power because he had a role in mind for him (the same for Shang Gu). Due to him being the God of not only Fire, but War, and then putting him through implied tough training, I have no doubt that he was meant to be the defender/protector of the three realms. Shang Gu left the three realms TO him when she...you know.

So to answer your question, eh, you can make an argument for either or. I would put Shang Gu first, but the gap isn't wide whatsoever.

This was, I believe, my first Xu Kai drama and my second CDrama (the first was Love O2O), and that's mostly because it's on Netflix. I guess I have a penchant for finding cold MLs.

However, in comparison to Yang Yang's(?) character, which legitimately was like watching paint dry for hours (the male lead had zero interesting qualities, let alone a personality), I was relieved to find that while the character of Lu Si Cheng was "cold" or stand-offish, he had actual quirks and traits that betrayed his usual temperament. I also love how he takes his responsibility as the Captain very seriously and protects his teammates , but scolds them appropriately. Without him, they would have been a mess, lol. When he warmed up later on, I felt that's when the character let loose a bit. His team mates seem to love and respect him, so if he was just a jerk, that wouldn't make much sense.

I was impressed with Xu Kai, whenever he was allowed to be challenged. In retrospect, especially now since I've checked his other dramas, he was particularly stifled here. When he had the opportunity to breathe, his acting ability shone through, and that's what ultimately caught my attention. This means whenever the team (or his girl), had issues to confront, because he was required to do more than be the cold-faced ML.

Cheng Xiao...I think a lot of people went over her a million times, and it's not in the positive spectrum. I agree with them unfortunately. No hate to the person herself, she wasn't completely terrible, but her expressions and her incapability to emote made it difficult to grasp things. If she hadn't told her best friend she liked Si Cheng, I would've believed she was on the fence about him because she lacked that much nuance. It seemed even one-sided more often than not :/...at worst, I felt he was forcing himself on her sometimes despite dating. And on her own, so blank faced that I was trying to figure out if she was REALLY upset or...not upset, or MAYBE upset, etc.

The "chemistry" that a lot people talk about and see I felt were 95% due to Xu Kai's effort. It helps that he initiated near all of them! The two times she reciprocated his advances were better because he actually had SOMETHING to bounce off of.

Frankly, I feel Xu Kai hard carried this CP. And I mean this with all due respect.

And because his co-star had her deficiency in acting, he had to pull things out of her rather than meeting her equally to go halfway with.

I realized I was right when I checked out and watched his other dramas. He is superb. And I feel he feeds off his leading lady. He is as good as his co-star is, in other words, and at times it seems he gets inspired to reach a similar level. Cheng Xiao didn’t bring much talent to work with.

I liked them regardless.

Overall, I understand the drama's popularity. I loved it myself. I enjoyed the bickering, the synergy and relationships of the team mates, and their relationships with other teams, the subversion of tropes (no love triangles, good terms with ex), the light heartedness, the fun, etc. This isn't a "too deep" drama to break apart and analyze. Just enjoy it.

Have you checked out Ancient Love Poetry as well? He made me bawl my eyes out with his acting there. subtle but…
Yes, I'm about to finish that soon. I'm on the Ep. 40s mark.

Got introduced to him through Falling Into Your Smile (it was on Netflix). Looks aside because it's clear he's gorgeous, I thought he acted superbly well when the role of Lu Si Cheng required it (for example, when he was berating Tong Yao in the room after she got physical with that wench). I'm usually not a fan of the cold-face ML archetype, but he was cheeky and had quirks that made him interesting. The point is, I got hooked.

After that I saw Once Upon A Time in Lingjian Mountain and it was a wrap. There's something....addictive about this guy.

He has this certain charm and charisma. Looks, visually, like what a young Leo DiCaprio would look like if he was Chinese, along with the acting ability.

Yeap.

China's own Leonardo DiCaprio.
