The emperor prefer the concubine becuz they’re childhood sweetheart they were in love before the empress came in the pic. The empress is obedient becuz she is a kind, gentle logical person and she probably can risk being hated by her husband since prob like most palace dramas he was forced to marry her. The empress doesn’t wish for more she just wants peace.
