I really think JB does not give a damn about what the others are thinking. She does not bother to explain anything…
Ha, that's true. I'm older than JB and definitely don't care as much about what people think about me or expending time and energy on idiots, but when it comes to my husband and kids, I still care very much -- especially with friends and family. π
(all this being said, JB is 100 pct an absolute Saint for putting up with everyone around her -- the dad and the ex individually would make me apoplectic with rage, lol.)

That was the only time, but it felt very unsatisfying somehow and didn't make up for all the other times everyone trash talked him without knowing him at all. And SY cares very much what his parents think of JB. Speaking from personal experience, if people who mattered to me (friends, family, the ex I was still friends with, etc.) -- even annoying ones -- bad mouthed my significant other and made all kinds of terrible assumptions, I'd feel and react very differently, even if I couldn't change their minds overnight. Agree to disagree, I guess! :)
I love the attention to detail in this show, but the speed with which they get around town is astounding. π€£ Chongqing (or whatever fake city it's standing in for) is technically the largest city in the world -- more than 100 times larger than New York City. Just the urban area of Chongqing alone is more than 7 times the size of NYC. Yet they can fit in a dinner (even cancelled), movie plus travel time to meet up before their next meeting? I want some of that teleporting magic.π

He is never around during these moments where he is being criticized, so it's never in front of him anyway. He's never around to defend himself during these exchanges.

I do agree that from her perspective, she just couldn't care less what others think and has reached a point in her life where she just can't be bothered wasting time and energy with other people's ridiculousness. She's also tired of everyone's idiocy and just tolerating them, so I get all that. Even so, it still feels a little self-centered. I think she should consider things from the perspective of caring what people think about SY and his reputation, even if it doesn't really matter to her. He is still trying to carve his own career, still trying to overcome everyone's prejudices against him as "boyfriend material", so why not help alleviate some of that burden and stress by speaking up for him?
I'm really enjoying this show, but it suddenly hit me in the hospital scene with the dad and sister why it bothers me so much that JB always stays silent whenever everyone questions SY's intentions and her relationship with him.
Sure, maybe it's none of their business in her view and maybe she's just tired, but everyone around her has constantly made all these negative assumptions about him, and she has basically allowed the slander by not defending him with an explanation. "He's not here, because I didn't tell him" or "He's not after my money because he always insists on never owing me anything" etc. etc.
I could give it a pass in the beginning, but now that they are together, there is no excuse not to stand up for her boyfriend. Now that I've made this realization/noticed this, it is marring my view on whether she deserves him or not and making me a little mad every time she does it (which is almost every time). SY has constantly sacrificed so much for her, always putting her first above everything else, I want to see her really stick up for him for once.
Is it worth to watch? I'm interested because of xiao zhan but dont really like the story
There are some terrible and annoying characters, but also some wonderfully human and touching moments. Xiao Zhan is really great here, and probably one of my favourite characters that he's played.
I'm not sure what the foolish ex-husband possesses that the best friend is drawn toβmoney perhaps? like bro…
Sometimes love is not logical, otherwise "Bad Boy" types wouldn't be a thing, lol. I think she really gets him, relates to him on some levels, and she also has a soft spot for him from their childhood because he was the only one who didn't look down on her and her background. All that being said, I can't stand the guy, and agree, there's no accounting for tastes!
Adding that I am in the minority in that I don't mind the hockey kids and the uncle. We see SY's home life, so…
She basically raised her sister, and is very involved in her sister's studies and her sister actually whacked the ex after she found out he cheated on JB! That's not what people who have little to do with each other's lives do for each other. They lead "independent" lives insofar as they don't want to burden each other with their problems, but they obviously love each other a lot and not estranged. The sister might be annoying, but her behaviour doesn't feel out of the ordinary.
OMG, ep 25 was so stressful!!! I love this show, but it's starting to drive me utterly bonkers how JB always lets…
Adding that I am in the minority in that I don't mind the hockey kids and the uncle. We see SY's home life, so this is showing JB's family life. It's also part of the whole "slice of life" element -- everyone has annoying interfering relatives, lol. That being said, I don't need them either -- the ex is frustrating enough!π π
The confrontation between SY and the ex in episode 21 is funny. I think it was meant to be serious but that big…
Usually the ex's rants are meant to be serious, but I'm pretty sure ep 21 was meant to be comical (esp. considering the background music) -- the ex was so unhinged at the idea of SY working for them, hiring him, but just as offended and enraged that he turned down the interview offer, and his agitation and blatant hypocrisy and unreasonableness at being upset either way, was funny and so ridiculous.
OMG, ep 25 was so stressful!!! I love this show, but it's starting to drive me utterly bonkers how JB always lets her ex go on and on with his garbage views and his hypocritical behaviour, without setting the record straight while also giving him a good hard punch in his smug face. I'm sympathetic -- she's tired, and probably doesn't want to waste any more energy on him -- but she really needed to put the ex in his place and draw a hard line on his constant interfering and overstepping. What the ex did to SY is awful and enraging on so many levels, and now we have to wait and worry about what's going to happen to him. GAH!
For a very brief moment a few episodes ago, the ex's unhinged unreasonableness regarding JB and SY was kind of hilarious, but for the most part, every moose dropping that comes out of his mouth just makes me want to hurl him off the top of a roller coaster or something, lol.
