1. How can Luo Ning be queen of demon since Afu is never a king??2. Why would god of moon said the curse could…
So far drama seems to suggest HN and AF are brothers (meaning both descended from the previous Demon King) but HN is elder and has greater powers so maybe by birth order? Am waiting for plot twists!

Ya - I agree. He had to get the xiang3 shu1 (surrender document) from the other clans to establish himself as King. Perhaps before they were waterbound, they already had dominion over the other clans, who then broke away after the curse rendered the aquatic clan useless on land.

Oh when I meant Pretender to the throne, it was more like he is the unofficial heir to the Demon King. Not that he was pretending to be the Demon King. He was Yao Jun (Lord) over the Ji Shui zu - the aquatic tribe of sorts and traditionally (or so he says to Luo Ge), the Lord of that group was also King over all the demons until the curse made them waterbound, which enabled Ao Hen and other big demons to wreck havoc on land.

1) Answered by Corriander.

2) Agree with Corriander too.

3) I don't know if He Na is adopted or shared same father but different mother (or vice versa) as A Fu. But his legitimacy so far doesn't seem to be questioned so I guess as the elder brother, he was the Pretender to the Demon King throne. Note though that for the first 18 or so eps, he was only "Yao Jun" - Demon Lord. The first time he mentions about being Demon King was when he intervened when Luo Ge was going to kill the demons who sacked the Marquis' mansion. He appeared and reminded Luo Ge that the Lord of his tribe used to be King over all demons. He then appeared before the Immortal Palace court with evidence of submission from a certain demon tribe to put forth his proposal to unite all the demon tribes once again under his sovereignty.

4) Actually I like that despite her perceived weakness, all the major events have to be accomplished by her e.g. pulling out of the sword, retrieving the harp, revitalising that tree that Luo Ge meditates under etc. What I don't like is how the other characters seem bent on undermining that power, instead of, as you say, focusing on how to nurture and harness it for the greater good!

If you have Weibo account you wud see that this is show is dominating every category in china is the best tv drama…
hmm not on the mainland iQiyi app - highest it reached is 8986 as of 1 Jan. I think it is a matter of time it breaches 9000 but it is certainly gathering steam at a slower level than LBFAD.

Why do I feel like the voice of "Xiao Duo" is the same as "Bai Jue" of Ancient Love Poetry????Are they used same…
Bingo - it's the same voice actor :) I am also watching Song of the Moon now where some of the ML's multiple characters are also voiced by him.

I actually get this. Which explains why after such anticipation as a fan of the book, I’m only on episode 3!! Good luck whichever way you choose! I always enjoy reading your reviews and selfishly hope you’ll continue so that you can post a review thereafter :)

I would think so. Empress is quite powerless and does not appear that often in the novel. Princess Hede and the South prince also aren’t central characters. Fu isn’t a bumbling idiot (pretend or otherwise), only a self centred, suspicious, mediocre man who only desires things and women for the sake of it, without true love.

I personally feel the book is engaging because of the way it is written, not because it has a super exciting plot with a ton of ups and downs. Adapting such a story for TV will always be innately challenging I guess!

In the novel, revenge has been meted out a long time ago, before FL even enters the palace. He stays on as he understands what power can bring and he doesn’t want to return to the poverty he and his brother went through after the death of his parents.

I know Prince Rong's death is very sad and it's inappropriate of me to laugh at it, but the way it was presented…
I haven’t watched to that point but…could the death be intentional? Sounds sinister but I’m just wondering.

I think this is due to poor scriptwriting since the novel does not have a true villain. To make it dramatically viable, they have to create one out of some of the characters and I think that’s where the weakness is showing.

I did not expect him to go out the way he did. That and the hanging scene had a bit of morbidness to it.
Agree on the hanging scene...!!! I wondered whether the blurring out was due to censorship requirements. Ok, haven't watched until ep 4 but I guess unlike the novel the death wasn't engineered...

Watching epi 1 and Wang Li Xin's character throws me off so much, is he also supposed to be a fake eunich?
I think the poster who replied thought your meant Xiao Duo. Wang Li Xin's character Cao Chun Ang in the book is 12/13 years old. A real eunuch and calls Xiao Duo Godfather ("gan1 die1" in the show) because apparently in the book, powerful eunuchs would "adopt" the young eunuchs who will in turn wait on them. I guess they had to modify the ages a bit and also, WLX is like a decade older than Dylan Wang! Maybe the drama adaptation will add a twist on whether he's a real eunuch, who knows. I only noticed he didn't speak in an effeminate way or act like Eunuch Sun and Prince Fu's eunuchs.

The ML actor is 24 and FL actress is 30. Characters' ages aren't specified but I'd assume 20s.
Character ages in the book are 23 for the ML and 16 for the FL if my memory is correct; I remember netizens commenting how Dylan Wang is actually acting a role his own age during filming.
