Some tea about this drama now that it is almost over.
I've never seen any production companies treat their leads as poorly as Zhu Yu's.
ZLH and TXW deserved better treatment. They were the main reasons for people watching this drama. They were at the forefront taking all the hate from literally numerous fandoms that were bashing mainly the two of them, esp. ZLH. There's literally always a new hate hashtag of him trending everyday.
But what they got in return was their characters watered down and their scenes changed or deleted, resulting in criticism that their characters were "unrealistic" and "too simple". What they got was investors shamelessly making use of their bigger fandoms and their willingness to spend on ZLH and TXW, to promote their own company's actors by adding scenes for those actors, then the leads important scenes and storylines are changed.
The marketing team, looked like they did good right with all the cute Weibo posts? No.
The Douyin and Weibo accounts are literally like robots. Ignoring fans requests to make trendy videos. Posting some BTS videos and short clips cut straight out of the drama, then call it a day. Normally official drama accounts on Douyin will like and recommend fan edits, and interact with fans in the comments to encourage engagement of drama fans. But this robot account doesn't do ANY of that. I've literally never seen a promotional account this robotic. The engagement is pathetic and not matching the success of the drama.
Nearing the end of airing and they only have about 250 Douyin videos and a little over 500 Weibo posts. Sounds like a lot, but that's a joke for a 40 episode drama. For comparison, Unveil Jadewind has 34 eps, 451 videos and over 700 posts. LITC has 36 eps, 438 videos and over 800 posts. So unless they are going to make 200 videos and 200-300 posts for the last 3 days, they are a joke.
And then there's the CP mistreatment. Promoting CP is normal for an idol C-drama. BUT. Out of the 3 CPs, only the main leads don't have a 共创 video on Douyin. It is basically something like a promotional Tiktok with the CP doing a cute video together. Literally in every idol C-drama, the main CP has at least one. EXCEPT for this drama. Out of the 3 CPs, only the main leads don't have an individual livestream commentary with just the two of them. I thought that was already bad enough, but a few days ago even random characters like Jin Ye, SYQ and the Cui magistrate (after BOTH of them were dead and already IRRELEVANT to the plot) had a livestream commentary together.
WORST thing of all is the leaks. They took FOREVER to respond. Then came out with a generic post. 0 mentions of compensation to their consumers. Turned fans that rallied for and waited patiently for legal episodes into clowns🤡 by deleting the footage everyone was looking forward to in ep.38.
These shameless companies know that ZLH and TXW don't have strong backing. So they didn't care to remove the random hate hashtags bought by rivals. Heck I think they might even have bought some on their own, just to make sure the drama was talked about, even at the expense of the leads.
And now I fear for ZLH and TXW's futures. Sure, they gained more fans, but they also gained A LOT of new haters, that will likely ALWAYS bring up this drama for every single one of their future works, and say "You see I knew it, the success of Zhu Yu was fake, those data were inflated after all, ZLH and TXW and their fans are so shameless for praising the drama". It's already happening.
In conclusion C-entertainment industry SUCKS, and even then the treatment of our leads here are the worst I've ever seen. I just hope the rumours of a 2nd collaboration is true, so that they can get the treatment that they should have gotten from this drama.

What they should not have done is make XZ's personality so nice. And change XZ's confession scene in front of the altar from him requesting his own punishment to be with CY, to his uncle hitting him. And deleted the kang city fight. And delete his involvement in Prince Changxin's death and make him lose the hostage SYQ once more.
For FL they made her dumber. She wasn't illiterate. She wasn't ashamed of her butcher job. The scene where she got food and supplies, she carefully thought through and made a plan, she didn't make use of SYQ to get food. And they also didn't show enough of her growth to become a general. Which is why a lot of people were saying oh why is it so easy for someone to become a general, right?
