So the Netflix version isn't dubbed, it uses Korean and Chinese? I find dubbing to be super distracting, it was one of the reasons I couldn't finish Diamond Lover.
There were some creepy moments and it tied in nicely to Ringu 2 given how long ago it came out, but I wouldn't say it's seamless (serviceable?). There's consistency, can't say the same for the Spiral timeline. There are some changes due to added lore but nothing detrimental.
An interesting idea but a tired franchise. People are trying too hard to modernize Sadako. Her omnipresence and sense of being 'timeless' is what makes her so effective in my opinion, and switching up the medium to connect with her is hurting that. There are better ways to do it.
I won't call this a shameless cash grab, there was some effort, but it wasn't well executed.
So Sadako is a spider now, ok. And wth with that cast? They're popular already, why do they have to play in this…
That spider frog monster confused the hell outta me too, but when I later checked the Wiki that was the imperfect 'Sadakos' being reanimated after Kashiwada tried to make them into vessels. The movie explained that part very poorly :/
If anyone else is still looking, try this.
