What if they "tricked" us like they made us believe that he didn't care for her !! I think he likes her and did…
It's possible. I still see some space for it to happen. At this point none of us really know whether they're going to hit us with another twist. But if Chung Myung truly had Man Wol's best interest in mind, he still did sold off Yeon Woo and rest of the gang. I don't know what he expects, when Man Wol was left with nothing. Tbh, I'd rather they just leave him as a manipulative, cold-hearted bastard. Rather than the dumbass who thinks Man Wol would be happy to live while everyone else dead.
Female lead anti-hero. Okay, I have to give it to Hong Sisters for Man Wol's backstory. It was truly tragic. I'm…
Love how they set up the backstory in the beginning episodes, made an effort tricking you into believing that Man Wol and Chung Myung were lowkey lovey-dovey, then hit you with reality right after. I admit, I was fooled into thinking it was mutual. But weirdly, I don't detest Chung Myung for what he did. Maybe I simply don't care enough. Instead, I feel sorry for those who were shipping him with Man Wol. Lol. RIP that ship sunk badly.
So, here's what I think happened in the past. The princess had a one-sided crush on Chung Myung. She found out…
Yeah, I'm still not completely sure if Chung Myung really was all good. For all I know, they could've left out the parts where it hints Chung Myung's betrayal. But based off only the past clips shown to us, that's what I got.
I sort of hope for Chung Myung's betrayal, since that would give a shocking twist to the past's plot. But at the same time, from ep7, seems like they're pushing the princess as Man Wol's "female rival" in both past and present. So, unless I was fooled into thinking that, Chung Myung's betrayal defeats the purpose of having the princess coming back in present to haunt Man Wol.
Okay, after ep7, we can conclude that the writers are going for the ol' 2nd female lead "antagonist" trying to…
So, here's what I think happened in the past.
The princess had a one-sided crush on Chung Myung. She found out Chung Myung has feelings for Man Wol, and it was mutual. The princess decided to get rid of Man Wol, without Chung Myung knowing. She captured Man Wol and Yeon Woo, almost got Yeon Woo hung, but Man Wol escaped. When Chung Myung found out, he helped Man Wol get away by concealing Man Wol's whereabout from the guards. Chung Myung agreed to marry the princess, in exchange for releasing Yeon Woo. That's how he was able to bring Yeon Woo back alive, as promised. Much later, Man Wol enraged at the news of the royal marriage, she went to kill off the princess.
(Not sure if Man Wol knew why Chung Myung was marrying the princess, so she may had felt betrayed, after all that had happened.)
Man Wol has shown, she view herself very cynically. Unable to face Chung Myung for what she had done, Man Wol did what she does best. Acting like the tough little thief who don't give two hoots about anyone, and ran away with the goods, while the guards chased after.
Okay, after ep7, we can conclude that the writers are going for the ol' 2nd female lead "antagonist" trying to steal the man in every way possible, as in a lot of rom-com dramas. Usually they'd fail, but here in the past she succeeded.
I think that the man from her past betrayed her for the princess and ended up killing yoon woo (I think his name)…
Same. they indicate that the tree is connected to Man Wol's heart/soul. Previously, I thought she betrayed Chung Myung, now I believe it's the opposite. But idk about Chung Myung killing Yeon Woo and her people tho. Because that would mean, all that time, he was deceiving her. Weird cause he saved Yeon Woo before.
From the preview, Man Wol said that Chan Sung will know how terrible she was. I wonder if she went on a killing rage and even stole their stuff to get her revenge. That's why (from ep1) there were guards/soldiers going after her. Then with Yeon Woo, like how someone commented before, it's a one-sided love.
The mystical old ladies said that sending Chan Sung to Man Wol could be blessing and poison. Instead of thinking Chan Sung is reincarnation of someone from her past (which I believe not the case anymore), I think what they mean is, the past could repeat. Man Wol could get hurt again, because of Chan Sung's ex-girlfriend appearance.
I'm new to K-drama so excuse me if I come off as someone hating on K-drama but is it me or are most K-dramas just…
No offense, but not sure why you choose to rant on how you feel towards K-drama in general here. This comment section is where we discuss regarding the above drama. If you were criticising it, that's a different story.
A better place to gather recommendations would be the forum. If you're curious about this drama, simply get to the point. To answer your question, it isn't the typical "cringy lovey dubby", but the plot does revolve around M/F lead's relationship. A tip for newbies, try the first 3 eps, and make your own opinion off of it.
I think the person Man Wol waiting for is Yeon Woo, cause he seemed to be very important to her, though it may not be a romantic feeling/relationship. But Chan Sung is reincarnation of Chung Myung, that's why she kept saying Chan Sung is not that person. In the past, we see Man Wol really care for Yeon Woo, all the while Chung Myung clearly has feelings for Man Wol, thus why he was always there to help her. But to me, it's unclear whether Man Wol felt the same. There must be an incident where Man Wol ended up losing Yeon Woo, which made her abandon everything and possibly betrayed Chung Myung.
Maybe, Man Wol painfully ignored/broke Chung Myung's heart in the past. Now at present, Man Wol will fall for Chan Sung while he plays hard to get.
However, through 3rd/4th ep, Yeon Woo has been quite out of the picture. Like, they intentionally not focus on him. So, also possible that it's actually the opposite. Lol idk.
Same thought. I came here to check if there's any update but nothing. Not sure what happened. Were they simply waiting for the right time, or was there some sort collision?
I'm not a fan of 'sageuk' films, and I've only seen few dramas/movies of this genre.
Usually, I'd find it boring by the 10th or so episode as they either; have no strong, captivating characters (or poorly played); ridiculous plot with absurdly foolish characters; slow or long; too political or fixed around romantic interests.
The Nokdu Flower is first of its genre to successfully have me completely smitten by both characters and story. And it's the opposite of everything I found boring.
Interesting, complex, characters with their own virtues and demons, stemming from their separate upbringing.
Great balance/pacing between political and romantic/character developments. Nothing felt forced, everything happened naturally. No matter how awful the character's actions, though arguably irrational, they're surprisingly justifiable.
Incredible acting from such a great cast. Though I initially watched this for Jo Jung Suk and everyone did amazing, I'm especially in love with the FL.
Honestly, I don't know why this drama only has a rating of 8.3, because it's a 10 on my list.
Unfortunately, every good thing do end. Still, I shall gleefully finish the remaining episodes.
I'm writing as an IU fan. I don't think IU suits acting in historical/traditional scenes, let alone playing as a strong female warrior in that era. It requires a lot of discipline, body strength and weeks to months of learning sword/martial art techniques to really execute them well. Not to mention, the different form of speech, expression, diction. But IU isn't only an actor, she's also busy with her singing career, so I doubt she has the time. Thus, I'll cut her some slack and just say, I didn't like it.
However, IU did great with her present character. I see that she's quite distant/cold, sort of cynical, sometimes childish/playful, which I understand. She's seen it all, sick of it all, and bored of it. Also, IU has the face/appearance and voice that serves well with the character Man Wol. Though there are times where I think another actress could've done a scene better, overall, casting IU for Man Wol was a good decision.
I don't think there's any need to talk about YJG's part. His character is pretty straightforward and "common" as in, what you'd usually see. YJG is a great actor, so there's no problem there.
It's only been 2 episodes, they've only started setting up the stage into which I hope something more. Some may cringe at the CGI, but I think with the budget they have, it's as good as it can get and so far, everything has been good.
Ep 11-12 had me empathising BJS. He's laughably sharp tongued and prideful, but seeing him at his lowest really broke me. Hooray character development!! Also, I sort of wish LRD would still end up with KJH. Their little romance story is so cute~
I just finished caught up with latest episode, and YES you should definitely at least give it 1/2 ep try. Personally, I'm not much into office dramas, still I love this. So, I think it wouldn't matter in this case :D
OK OK this has officially gone straight into my most favourite K-drama ever! It has everything! (dark)Comedy that works, emotional moving scenes that hits, eye-opening realistic everyday problems that slaps your conscience. I'm sold at the first 2 episodes, and seeing the comments, looks like I'll be loving it further down the road. 10/10 - no reason for me to hold back~
I'm currently at ep12, and here's my first problem with this drama: The girl was able to get a sneak attack on the criminal, yet after he dropped down, she frozed and WATCHED the man crawl back up, instead of grabbing one of the MANY chairs inches away from her reach. (or flip the tables on him, throw stuff at him, etc.) She continued to run into a place, CLUTTERED w/ building materials, yet didn't bother picking anything up as a weapon.
Writers need to stop with this whole characters being dumb at the most important moment. All so that prince charming can dramatically come to save his damsel in distress. Ugh.
Nothing against that, but let the character at least TRY to defend herself, then show the inevitable difference in strength. Don't immediately give up and make them appear like some naive lost child.
Ugh, I hate when people comment, "the leads look like father and daughter". The drama clearly tagged age-gap. What do you expect? If that's what the writer and director chose, then it's meant to be so. I swear, if it isn't a flower boy / idol-looking, people would always find it a problem.
They need an actor who look the part, AND has good pronunciation in English/Japanese. Considering the amount of English/Japanese lines, it would've ruined the whole drama with bad/awkward speech. But I guess it doesn't matter to them, as long as they're served visuals. LMAO
