How did your C-drama Journey start, and do you have any Tips for any Newcomers? Love 020, it introduced me to the special effects, stunning production, and with beautiful costumes when inside the game. I've been on a long journey since with many tears shed, laughter in comedy scenes (and boy do they have great ones), and just get lost in the adventure they invite you in. Mostly with the older ones before the censorship went "hold up."
Tips for beginners: -Once you get the hang of the language, you'll see it's a gorgeous language that has so many sayings that you will learn to remember them the next time you see it. At times, teams whom subtitle put an explanation by what they mean. -Start small. Seriously. C-dramas are notoriously long, especially for historical, Wuxia, and Xian Xia series unless it's a movie. Actually, start out with a movie unless you can find the rare short series lol -C-dramas are THE best with martial arts, especially if it's in Wuxia and Xian Xia genres. You will be in awe. -For historical dramas, be prepared for death and lots of plotting. It's something that sadly happened in the past where family members did it as well as concubines whom framed others just to get the Emperor's favor or get him to do their dirty work. Lots and lots of backstabbing in this genre too, but damn they do it so well. There are times where I didn't even predict who and even if I did, it still was done well in some series. -If you don't like those genres, marriage contract romance dramas are what C-dramas do best right after the three I mentioned. They too can also be long so find one that isn't but be careful, lot of them do have jerk male leads which I prefer to stay far away now vs me years ago. -If you don't like that genre, there's also the "gamers romance" genre (not really what it's called, but it's what I'm going with right now) that have been pretty big the past years. This includes MMORPGS, game tournaments, etc., -Long ones will definitely feel laggy if they're not written well, so it's okay to just skip through the episode if you feel like it. I do this at times even for the shorter ones since some writers like to focus too long on one scene when the point is already made. All depends on your preferences. -Get snacks for the long ones. Get drinks. Take a bathroom break. Use your pause button wisely, chosen one, for it is your friend. Get up and walk about. Stretch. Don't stay sitting too long like me and then get up after 6+ hours of not doing so and can barely walk >_>; -You will notice that some female leads are strong with a backbone while some are not but become one (or not). Make sure to look at the tags to see what kind on here or risk spoilers in the reviews area on here if that bothers you. I don't care for spoilers so I always look at the reviews since it doesn't ruin it for me, I have to experience it.
Been wanting to find another, definitely going to watch Love & Redemption after seeing this! I had it up thanks to recommendations from another Wuxia series but this seals the deal. Love me some awesome chemistry off the bat :D
Thank you for this review and being detailed about WHY it is overrated and toxic. I used to accept such behaviors when younger. I would have felt sick watching this now that I'm older and wiser that love isn't any of that bs.
