Ok but can we just appreciate WZ and JC's dynamics in the Nanling and Yueluo arcs especially?
He never treats her as someone to be coddled or restricted, which could have been a very easy trope to fall into considering the age gap, JC's innocence and happy-go-lucky nature, lack of martial arts, etc. JC's character could have also very easily fallen into the trap of an innocent, dumbed-down, love-brained character but she's given so much more agency. She is carefree, but she is also very grounded and committed to her causes. I loved how she became a war medic in the Yueluo arc, and I loved even more the scene when WZ bowed to her. It's such a beautiful sign of respect and acknowledgement, bc she truly is THAT girl!!
WZ himself is such a foil to PY's condescending character. While PY sees JC's kindness and selflessness as a weakness, like when he doesn't let her investigate the famine case, WZ recognises it as her strength (again, the bowing scene). He also backs her up and protects her when she needs it, but never tries to stop her.
I'm actually happy with the progression from enemies to allies before they fall in love: once they were able to see eye to eye, and recognise their like-mindedness in their need for justice, they were able to develop this mutual respect and appreciation for each other.
...that is, before it is foiled by WZ's lies and the ensuing conflict ðŸ˜
is there any love triangle, sfl or sml or any annoying Third wheel? Unrequited lover who keeps getting between…
There's a SFL who likes the ML, he doesn't give her much attention. Comparatively, there is a SML who spends a lot of time with FL, this bit can be annoying for some viewers. FL rejects him in ep 25. FL's bestie is also bad at love advice and prefers SML to ML initially. These are the main love triangle components. IMO the slow burn romance is worth it, and there have been more annoying side leads. Plus their relationship is pretty solid from ep 25 onwards.
