It didn't do the book justice
I can understand how difficult it is to depict the actual He Yan character from the book to the one we get in the movie. Somehow somewhere corners had to be cut. Rebirth, which I understand, is a concept frowned upon in the censor department, had to be ditched. This unfortunately made the movie skipped the crucial story of the book of how He Yan was reborn in abject poverty. Also missed out the wonderful secondary family she has and how she had to relearn how to survive being dirt poor and physically weak in a second body. This is the bit that made me love He Yan as a character - she was smart, cheerful and caring despite being pitiful and had all the difficult circumstances thrown unto her. And there were some absolute crazy survival scenes. Her relationship with her rebirth brother was so lovely I am sorry this was not in the story. It is THIS He Yan whom will make you want to root for her survival and success for the rest of the story.The fight scene in this movie is amazing. Kudos to the director.

The drama puts me to sleep every single episode...
I completely don't get this drama, nor the high rating. It has to be one of the slowest storyline, not to mention confusing plots. It started with a convincing revenge arc but then it withered halfway to a frustrating mutually unwanted marriage arrangement which lasted like forever. By the time the leads actually got together I have exhausted my patience for them. The decision to drop the show after 19 episodes was a high relief. When the fluff don't even fluff
I don't get the high review here.I feel like watching a 30 year old dating a 16 year old. In fact maybe more like a 16 year old with a 12 year maturity. It's a bit creepy.
Perhaps the problem here is the directing. Both the main actors are seasoned actors. FL was told instead to smile a lot, to act young, shy and put on a cottequish voice. ML acts more like a dad and forever giving instructions. I mean what is with the repeated cooking guide?
Dropped after 20 episodes.

A rare all 10 score!
Not intending to write a long review but I wrote this as soon as I finished the show because I couldn't wait to give it a perfect 10 score to boost its overall rating. It's so rare that I get this feeling that I've just finished reading a satisfying book as well a drama at the same time. It's a testament to how good the storyline is but especially, and especially the script. The fact that this was written by a male screenwriter blew me away. And I love that the FL bestie gives us a glimpse behind the work, and thought processes of a romance writer. Everything about this show is so well thought out. Holy Grail Drama
Having watched this drama the 4th times and I would probably rewatch this again in many more years to come, this drama no doubt sits in my holy Grail list.Evaluating a drama based on its rewatch value is an interesting concept. Most dramas would not last repeated evaluation and scrutinization. Even harder if the drama is able to evoke the same feelings and tension on a rewatch. This drama does these for me. Big time. I still cry like a baby on some of the scenes. And I watched with glee when the leads finally connect romantically.
Jung So Min is just so so amazing. I remember really loving her in Alchemy of Souls and the major disappointment when her role was switched to a different actress on the second season. She has the most expressive and beautiful eyes. They carry myriad of emotions, and in this drama, straddled happiness and sadness with such talent and conviction.
Each time I watch this drama I noticed new things that I love. The 4th time round I really enjoyed the gentle and kind nature of the journalist who conducted interviews. His questions were so on point.
The Lavender group a major star in this cast too. They are almost as good as my fabulous Reply 1988 family.
Watch this if you have not seen it. I have seen some negative comments about this drama and I am not entirely sure why. It tugs my heartstrings repeatedly and I really wish there are more dramas like this, as well as more of Jung So Min.

Surpassed my expectations exceedingly!!
Oh my - my only gripe is that this needs to be another 5 episodes longer!I read some comments about how good this drama is but I have been hindered by how tricky it is to source the drama. I have an Iqiyi and Netflix account and I don't really want to start another subscription. In the end I had to use a streamed website ( with ad blocker) which I don't normally used. After finishing I realized I should have just paid to join amazon Prime or HBO. The drama alone is worth a subscription.
This drama deserves a 9 in MDL in my opinion. I think the rating is on the low side because it is so difficult to find it. I watched the ever popular Pursuit with Jades in Netflix prior to SOT and I must say the later drama blew my mind away so much more. The story telling and the pace are brilliant. There were no dulled moments and the story kept me guessing right to the end. Scripts are great and kept the momentum right to the very end. It reminded me of my first time watching the drama Reset. There were no fillers. I love all the actors.
Do watch this. It has surprisingly landed in my top 10 list.
