Really good actors can do this for "villain" characters.

I understand now why there are 47 episodes. I think it’s such a shame that the scenes are being dragged out…
Huh? Are we watching the same drama? The pacing is fine. This is not an "action" drama in the way you may understand it... in fact I've seen it tagged as a "family" drama... which are generally slower paced and focused on internal struggles.

I think Tan Somgyun’s best role is still in Under the Power and surprisingly her chemistry with Ren Jialun was…
RJL was also really good in Under the Power. There are some aspects of the storytelling that annoyed me, but TSY and RJL put in really super performances. Plus there's Han Dong.

You and how many thousands of CP fans!!!
I'd love a little 24 episode drama... Love at Night meets As Beautiful as You ...

"She can't read; it's her family that won't let her study, not feudal society. The maid who could read beside…
She learned the family attitude towards education and book learning. Did you see that library? It was locked, dusty and infrequently used enough for her to have romantic trysts in it without being caught. Nobody in the Zhao family gave a flying fig about education, and her maid wasn't in a hurry to teach her and thereby reduce her own value / importance.

Did you see the part where she refused the divorce? She wanted to keep milking that cow until she was ready to dump him.

No, but that kind of thing used to happen all the time, even up to the 1800s in the US and the Caribbean. Being…
No ... I absolutely would not. The concept was the same across the known world, and even the pre-Colombian civilizations had the practice. And while some societies did treat slaves better, they could literally be bought, sold, and in some instances killed without recourse. They were property.
I'm not joking when I say modern day pets have more "rights" and protections than slaves did during many periods in history.
In the 1800s killing slaves became less common strictly because supply channels were cut off. But otherwise things didn't change much.

It's crazy seeing Cnets comparing Lin Jin Qi to the ML from Goodbye My Princess when that dude actually killed…
Not even slightly ... ppl just need an excuse to hate... and taking the story out of context.

Dangg, didn't realise Zhao Xing Tang is a 'guest' character.. I hate her but also pity her. I can't be completely…
Not rooting for her in the truest sense, but def. can understand where she's coming from. And against her absolutely awful family? I'm def. on her side ...

Title Against the Current Spoiler
....So am I the only one rooting for the villain? The ML really did her dirty. He treated her like she is a representative…
He was never going to flip her. She was set on her 7 year lover, and getting together with the ML would have supported her father's plans too much. She really disliked and disrespected the ML from the get go, and her behaviour in the context of the Lin family indicated she disrespected them too. It would have taken a lot more energy to win her over than to just get rid of her, as he did, and there was no guarantee he would succeed.
Frankly, she did the ML a LOT dirtier than he did her, and for a lot longer.
- slept with her cousin before marriage, got pregnant
- married the ML pretending to be a virgin
- lied to him about her health and used it as an excuse not to sleep with him for months
- set up her own household of servants loyal only to her within his household, excluding and discarding long time servants of the Lin family in the process
- embezzled Lin family funds to build her "silver towers"
- conducted usurious loans, a crime that could get the entire family punished
- mistreated the servants for no reason [even lied about the girl who was sent away]
- kept a male lover for the entire time they were married
- disrespected him and his position as her husband
- planned to abandon the Lin family and run away with her lover, creating a huge scandal for both families as a result

I don't see why the ML should be compassionate to her when she never showed the slightest compassion to anyone.

Also I really really liked that survival and living is her first priority and not revenge. Maybe it will come…
Yeah, they overstated that in the synopsis... but you know what they say, "The best revenge is living well" ...

So this really has 47 episodes? What happened with the 40 episodes regulation?
It was relaxed this spring.

Why fantasy? This is definitely historical, right?
They want to avoid the nitpickers who are saying they're not being historically accurate. So it's fantasy in that "this drama does not correspond to any historical dynasty". [They post that on every episode]. In reality I think it's supposed to be either Tang or Ming...

Kind of surprised people found ML to be cruel or unlikeable at this time (as of episode 8). Lin Jinqi is calculative…
People condemning him for looking forward to his new marriage forget that his previous fiancee is dead. Since he'd never even met her, he didn't have any real feelings for her ... I don't think people are putting his actions into context.
