I was the person who added one of them to MDL, and I’m usually pretty inactive. At the time I added them here, I didn’t notice Ben had anything else his profile and I haven’t been checking activity since.
The director really said "I wonder what's gonna emphasise that he's a tough guy...I know! A lollipop!!"Still,…
Sometimes it’s a censorship thing, because some places ban depictions of smoking during certain hours (or completely) and this doesn’t have a late airing slot. Would be very strange for that to be the case though, given the rest of that scene.
the main cast is different from the first trailer.
That’s because the original trailer was a live-action trailer for the book release. This production was not realised until much, much later, so the original cast aren’t in it. Not sure the original cast were even actors, as I recall at least one was a model, and neither had been in anything else on MDL.
I’m here because of Lin Pei Yu (as usual), but unfortunately I haven’t connected with any of her post-We Best Love works so far. I’m hopeful here for something I’ll enjoy again, although I’m not too sure how this’ll go. The comedy/serious isn’t working for me at all so far, and I’m not sure what production team picked this up but it’s feeling a bit choppy and like a small production, more reminiscent of the first season of HIStory, but with stranger editing choices and odd comedy/serious aspects going on.
Not discouraging people from trying this and I’m not trying to attack the show in any way, I’m just very picky to begin with and not yet sure how to feel. I really want to like this.
Half wondering if it’s me that changed, I still love all her works up to and including WBL, but everything since has been a pass from me. Anyone else?
Well worth the watch, personal highlights would be level of detail, a couple small but somewhat obscure references had me awestruck at the dedication. The soundtrack did its job perfectly, and was never once intrusive. The cast were, as they’d appear, stellar. I also enjoyed the balance between the escapism of drama while still straddling an extent of reality.
I’d say if it’s interested you, give it a chance. Were there a couple things I could pick on? Yes, but they weren’t so glaring as to affect the overall watching experience in my opinion.
A lovely, switch off half of your brain an enjoy it kind of drama. The bromance was heartwarming and held the pieces together well, the action was solid and very enjoyable.
Personally, I was worried after reading all the comments that weren’t too happy about the rewrites. Honestly, I preferred the rewritten portion of the show, which was totally unexpected.
Thinking of watching? Go for it.
Scared of rewrites? Keep an open mind, because I can tell you I still enjoyed.
Loved reading this, and taking time to ogle at the stunning shots shown from each choice! Honestly the first film that came to my mind for cinematography was The Night Beyond The Tricornered Window, say what you will of the unusual plot, but I’d say it’s strong in the winter visual category here, having blown me away visually with the choices of angle, shots taken, and colour grading.
It’s amazing to watch - films especially, where even a collection of stills of the cinematography can tell you so much about the world. It’s a picture of a street; is it busy? If it’s busy, is it a sea of colour and life, or a greyed out shoal, mindlessly going about a mundane existence? They often say a picture is a thousand words, and similarly one could say the cinematography is the brush that paints the picture.
If you want no spoilers: This is the right way to do a competitive show like this. Personally very satisfied by…
Honestly I was so happy with the lineup in the final and the attitudes of them all. Lovely to see the two teams who had played the game openly were the last and knowing there’d be no hard feelings. Admirable people.
It says a lot about how these people carry themselves. Who I thought I’d root for based off job titles at the start vs who I root for now I’m halfway through is completely different. I find shows like this bring out the best in some and the worst in others, and I always end up rooting for the more honourable players or teams.
In lieu of posting a review I’ll put this in a comment.
Finished it. Firstly, don’t judge it by the title. It honestly surprised me pleasantly as a show and I’d say it’s worth a watch to those interested. Lovely soundtrack, well acted, and as with many Japanese dramas, it didn’t forget about humanity, and in a way put a pleasant spotlight on it.
26 episodes seen and I’m really enjoying the food for thought here. I appreciate that the plot does have the level of depth it’s clearly aiming for, and how characters are written; in that in every instance, there is a tangible reason for the perspective from which they come.
Is this drama worth getting past the baby voice used for the FL? Listening to a child's voice talk to a man's…
I almost dropped for this exact reason, however I’d say there’s enough plot and interest to cover for it. It’s a direction thing from what I’ve heard, to make her innocent character clear from the start. Which, I can understand a little, because a deeper, darker sounding voice on such a character could seem off, but I’m definitely not one for high, childlike voices personally. I probably stopped noticing it 6-8 episodes in.
Don’t full screen the player. If you see the transparent bar just below it with “Tt” on the left, there…
Apologies, I do not, although the site does have extensions that can apparently make it perform better, and using those while watching directly on Vimeo may work. If this doesn’t work, I’m very sorry but there doesn’t seem to be anyone else subbing it either. Wish I could be of more help.
