Anyone know any BLs drama that is written by a man? It seems, and this might be an unfair categorization, female…
I won’t do a full list of Thai BL, but a lot of them are written for screen by men, including Manner of Death.
All of these below have a man listed as screenwriter.
Japanese BL : Pornographer Mood Indigo Double Mints* Sei no Gekiyaku* His - I Didn’t Think I Would Fall In Love Dare Yori mo Mama wo Aisu (2006) (not exactly BL, but Gay Character and Gay Romance tag) Boys Love (2006) Boys Love : The Movie (2007) Fujimi Orchestra A Touch of Fever (1993)
Taiwanese BL : Your Name Engraved Herein (this is an amazing film!) Sodom’s Cat (impossible to find)
Korean BL : Color Rush Wish You: Your Melody From My Heart
* - dark or disturbing
I will update this while I check for more, but off the top of my head, there’s a few. Interestingly, I think more Japanese BL is written by men then women from what I’ve watched. Also, some of the male Japanese BL writers put in much more (horny/intense/dark) stuff than some female writers.
Japanese BL tends towards one extreme or the other - Cherry Magic being a light, family friendly comedy; Saitankyori wa Mawari Kudokute being the single most disturbing thing I have ever seen.
Also, there are several titles I am not listing here that have a male director and no credited writer, therefore it is unknown whether or not the writer is male or female.
EDIT: Upon perusing for Japanese dramas/films I realised, there’s A LOT. They were clearly way ahead of the game, I’ve come across BL films dating all the way back to a 1987 film that isn’t yet added on MDL. So, a lot of their BL content has aged - there’s lots from the 2000s.
Considering that this is still quite a way off, this has A LOT of watchers. Most Kdramas (let alone Thai or BL dramas) don’t reach this level of hype before airing this early on. I’m impressed by the sheer level of hype and attention this has; hopefully it will deliver when the time comes in August.
Bittersweet is how I’d describe this, I’m in still love with this show even though it’s a bit painful.
The way this makes me feel after the most recent episode (4) is shockingly similar to how I felt watching (and rewatching) my first drama - Dark Blue and Moonlight. It has a similar bittersweet pain to it that makes me love it all the more. I might well rewatch Dark Blue and Moonlight again because of WBL at this rate.
How many times are we going to put poor Gene on the spot? As someone who hates the attention that comes with being put on the spot, particularly in front of people, I feel his pain.
As I haven´t watched this drama yet as I was waiting to see if this drama has a BE or a HE, this is nice to hear,…
As far as BE or HE goes, it is based on the folk tale / historical events surrounding On Dal. I’d say for a rough Idea you could look up the folktale for answers.
From what I’ve seen of the drama so far, they haven’t been sticking tightly to said folktale (at least from what I read of the folktale) and that it’s more loosely based, so it may help with your query on BE or HE.
Equally, there’s nothing to say that they won’t make the ending happier or sadder than the original historical material. It is likely to bear some resemblance to it though, because it was stated at the start of episode one that it was based upon the tale of a man called On Dal.
I hadn’t yet resumed watching since the change in casting, however if they’re reshooting episodes 1-6, I might well wait until they’re out and start all over. Sounds like a good decision all things considered, that way it won’t be jarring to future viewers and on Korean sites where the episodes with Ji Soo have been removed, they’ll regain the first 6 episodes.
This is nowhere near what I had originally expected, but I’m liking it so far. The dynamic between Li Cheng and Mu Ren is very fun to watch. The stepbrothers feel a bit awkward to watch but that seems very deliberate. Also really enjoy the dynamic of the three of them living together, it seems fun and personally I quite like cohabitation in dramas, it adds to the scope of things that can happen.
The tone of this is totally different to any HIStory before it, it’s at times similar to sitcom; but that makes it fun and entertaining. There was a couple of moments that I have wondered ‘What on earth am I watching?’, but doesn’t ruin my enjoyment of the show at all.
Okay, wasn’t planning on starting this, some of it hits close to home for me. I’ve seen the first 3 episodes and think I like where it’s going.
Only funny thing is having seen School 2017 very recently the dynamic between the male leads feels all too familiar.
Speaking of, I’ve heard the SLS here is painful, although I’m hoping it isn’t too much. I don’t usually feel SLS - I can only think of maybe two dramas where it has succeeded with me. We’ll see on that though. I’d say more often I will like a SML and wish him well, but don’t necessarily get cut up about who ends up with who.
Took a look at the cast and almost wondered if this was a YYY reunion... pretty sure half of the main cast here were in YYY, it also has the same director. Same network / production company?
It could be possible if they haven’t prerecorded it. It could prove quite difficult though, because RWTMR’s…
I’m not saying that an innocent person needs forgiving, but that is just how things typically go with the media. The allegations will likely follow her for an unfortunately long time even if she is innocent because that’s often what happens with media.
Giving some space between the accusations and the airtime is the smartest move because of the controversy, as it could affect the show’s viewership and ratings.
Of course, if she’s innocent, she deserves an apology.
If the lead actress scandal is really serious why dont they just replace her character with a new actress and…
It could be possible if they haven’t prerecorded it. It could prove quite difficult though, because RWTMR’s main cast are not idols. The struggle here is that having idols in the main cast is scheduling - NCT in particular is a very active group, even when not promoting a single/album. Also, Jinhyuk and Jaehyun are in different groups, so chances of their schedules lining up aren’t too high. If too many schedules clash, it could be very difficult to get all of the cast together again with a new member.
If it isn’t mostly prerecorded though, it could well be doable..? It also depends upon the outcome of Park Hye Soo’s case - even if she’s innocent, people are likely to need time to calm down and forgive her because of all the negative media attention.
Saw this title and remembered the anime... to watch or not to watch... probably watch? I remember the anime was *mostly* cute. Haven’t read the manga or seen the Japanese live action though.
Also hope that Rei is just as savage as in the anime :)
This doesn't feel like the other history series at all, We Best Love seems to have taken that feeling/vibe completely.Close…
It may be because Lin Pei Yu (who has written We Best Love) wrote most of HIStory - hers were the most popular of each season on MDL. She wrote Obsessed, Crossing the Line, Right or Wrong, and Trapped. In season 1, Obsessed is the most watched and highest rated. She was the only writer for season 2. Trapped also garnered more viewers and higher ratings on MDL for season 3.
Trapped has 20,000 MDL viewers with a rating of 8.5, whereas MODC has 15,000 viewers and 8.0 rating. (Numbers rounded down to nearest thousand viewers)
Where it gets strange is that this renewal was apparently due to the “International Success” of Make Our Days Count, when I’m pretty sure the general consensus on MDL is that people prefer Trapped overall, so I wonder where that data came from.
The writer of Close To You was the same one who wrote the infamous MODC, and that in itself has some people unhappy. It does make sense though because of this being the direct result to the success of MODC’s success.
It’s on Viki for free, however it says 1 episode at 50 minutes. On Viki, there will be ten episodes, they did the same with HIStory3. So, the Viki episode is both of the first two together.
Okay. I started it, fully planning not to watch it. Surprisingly liking it so far, and while parodying/satirising various tropes, it’s doing a very good job. It’s really fun. Guess I’ll keep watching then.

Yet again, Japan having series with the longest titles possible. XD
