This film was pretty influenced by the American way of doing cinema at the time. I think Shimazu matured a lot ever since this film (since I was random enough to watch his latter works before the earlier ones) and he got a directional style of his own as time went by.

For this film alone, the dialogues could've been better handled than that. And since it was mostly based on dialogues, it might have came slow at times. The actors were convincing enough though so it was a plus (it was a nice surprise seeing Egawa in one of his earlier roles).

Overall, the film was another discovery of mine for the transition of Japanese cinema from the silent to the talking era. It's something to keep in mind.
On Blade of the Immortal Jun 9, 2016
It's based on a manga or a novel, right? The story seems vaguely familiar.
Anyway, it's Miike so I am definitely in! *secretly hoping for another 13 Assassins' gore*

He's an amazingly versatile actor! Sometimes, I think few roles are too little for him to showcase his acting nuance, it's like the characters he gets limit him to a certain range of acting. But overall, he's an impressive ahjussi. I need to watch more of him, this article was pretty good.
You didn't mention A New World though? It was a great film of his.

I am sorry (actually no I am not), this drama was bad. Ridiculous plot. Fake situations. Repeatable. Dragged. Shallow.
On A Man's Story Jun 5, 2016
The revenge part in this drama was very well-built. The two main male characters were smart and cunning. I liked their showdowns the most. Everything else wasn't that impressive.

Too slow paced and dragged for my taste. Go Soo was amazing.
It was nice seeing Lee Da Hae in the days where I used to actually admire her.

As usual, this was an impressive guide Ana (I cheated and read it beforehand Haha)!

I desperately need to watch more of Egushi's dramas and films. No matter how much I have under my belt, it always seems so little compared to his impressive list. He's truly an impressive actor. It amazes me that he can play both the intense and the cool type so damn well. He has charisma too (something I highly appreciate about an actor) so he definitely climbed up into my list in no time!

Man, I don't know. First, Shinkegi no Kyojin and now FMA? Why can't they stop adapting mangas that shouldn't be adapted? I mean, CGI anyone? Did anyone have the courtesy to think that Anime is different than a live action?

Not to mention that casting a Johnny's JR as a main lead makes me really reluctant about this. Yamada? Come on, please. The older actors are promising (Matsuyuki, Oizumi, Sato, Kunimura and the others) but the younger cast is a no go.

It's a Warner Bros production this time so who knows. I also read some encouraging lines from the Japanese producer. When he was asked "Why adapt FM now? Why not before?" he replied, "Because we didn't have consfidence before, now we do."
So let's see if the confidence is justified.

I have a feeling that Takeru Sato will have a cameo here.
Oh right! Since they were in Bakuman and there's always an appearance of Yamada's co-star in a previous production Haha but maybe Oguri too? Nobunaga Concerto and all.

One of the best Stalker guides I've seen around! I wouldn't choose anyone other than you do it for Takayuki, I…
Thanks! I'm glad to be back^^

If only he was included in FM's cast with WB but anyway, the chance will eventually come.

I plan to write about them all before I die. But you know how hard it is to watch enough films with them. I believe 20 and 30 films per actor are still not enough. They had close to 100 films after all. But I promise to write about them at some point.
And you can oblige me to that promise Haha
DreamingKoreanBallad May 25, 2016
This was pretty well written! I really love this ahjussi's acting, he quickly climbed up to my favourites list. I didn't watch everything he was in (I do plan to stalk him at some point though) but Going by the Book, Moss, Confession of Murder, Broken, The Plan Man and Fatal Encounter sold me out.

I love how he can portray each role in a very charismatic unique way. I look forward to more of him in the future.

Although I'm not very interested in these types of plots but it"s Ryuhei and Maki. I can't actually resist this combo. Way to go producers!
On The Monkey King 2 May 25, 2016
It will probably be so CGI filled and like the first film but since it Aaron Kwok and the amazingly stunning Gong Li then I am so in.

One of the best Stalker guides I've seen around! I wouldn't choose anyone other than you do it for Takayuki, I know all too well how we both love this amazing underrated actor.
I practically watched all of his films but I need to work more on the dramas when I'm in the mood.

I said it before, Takayuki really amazes me with his versatile acting style. The way he communicates his character hit me so hard, he's definitely one of the better Japanese actors around and I'm pretty sure he will know even more success in the future.

I can't wait for the third season of Yuusha. That's practically why I'm back around here haha
