The fact that there is a genre of lakorn that involves rape (by the male lead, no less) is absolutely disgusting.…
As I said earlier, you can watch and enjoy many Thai lakorns without coming across any rape dramas. Romantic comedies, family, period and supernatural dramas are even more available than slap and kiss.
Let's see, rape rate is quite high in Thailand and most women who got raped don't even report it and even when they do, the police aren't exactly eager to find the rapist and even when they do, they don't exactly give him the highest penalty. According to Criminal Laws in Thailand, rape crimes get 4-20 years but the range of judgement is usually 4-10 years and every freaking prince or princess's birthday, many of judgements are reduced to half so a rapist can get out in 2 years time. Rape is an issue in Thailand that's why some Thai lakorns focus on it but I don't see them giving solutions.
By the way, rape in Thailand cannot only be committed by a man against a woman, but also by a woman against a man, or a man against a man or a woman against a woman. That's quite common although lakorns only show the man against woman side.
About rarely shown kisses: Generally, people in Asia are conservative. This is not a subjective feeling, but a…
Thai lakorns are even more conservative than Japan and Korea. But you've got to give Taiwanese dramas credit for steamy kisses. They have the best kissing scenes in Asian dramas' perhaps. Thailand isn't exactly that conservative but their lakorns are. You can't be conservative when rape rate is over the top and rape punishment is so little compared to other countries and crimes.
There are good gems in lakorns, I only said it's rare to find great masterpieces.
Lol this intro is written pretty biased even though is covers a lot. ;) Yeahh.. Uhm not all lakorns are slap and…
I don't think there's anything wrong with liking and watching slap and kiss lakorns because many people out there enjoy the genre. Those who feel repulsive from them can simply NOT watch them. Also, the rape scenes are getting less and less frequent and they turned into more willing pre-marital sex instead.
I agree on the chemistry part though, Thai lakorns have great chemistry between leads.
As for the non-showing kisses part, I don't see that as a negative thing but the way I said "it's a let-down, I know" because many who are used to some steamy hot kisses aren't going to find it here, that's all.
Thanks a lot for this well-made intro Cheer, I've been wondering about Thai dramas and if I should watch them.…
Why am I not surprised by that decision Erin? It's totally because I knew beforehand that you wouldn't be interested in anything that doesn't contain lots of melodrama :D
I was fooled by Full House Thai version lol. I found it so great that I wanted to discover Thai dramas. The most…
For those seeking something like Full House, they really shouldn't take slap kiss lakorns as their next stop. There are plenty of romantic comedies to choose from.
@Panda-san: As I said, you can discover lakorns without running into dramas that contain rape; romantic comedies, family and periodic dramas are also a great substitute.
