That's why I am saying the drama did not portray the message in the right way. Koreans are always over the top and IU and Lee were not the exception. I couldn't feel moved, I did not perceive any teaching from their characters, and this is the ONLY AIM a drama HAS TO portray. If the drama is made to TEACH the importance of living through difficulties, I want THIS. And My mister did not conveyed this message at all. Maybe YOU are the kind of people trying to cheery up people at funerals, but I would consider it disrespectful. There is a moment for everything, and My mister does not teach you to be cheerful but to be a warrior in life. A dead soul can ever be a warrior? That's what the drama fails.

I'm not the only one thinking this actually

Well it's not only me that could not feel anything from my mister. For me, it happened to lovely runner too. It's the way portraying those scenes that matters the most. Yes, anticlimatic because the laught makes you forget the "never give up" message because you are too invested in laughing than struggling. The characters never stop to struggle any moment of their life, they don't forget to struggle and fight for their lives, and those exagerrated way in the original totally cut off the mood. Even Ji-An in the original is like a zombie, I like IU but where was she fighting? in her fish-looking way of looking at others? Here You'An is quiet, aloof but her mood shifts, because he wants to live. This message is very bad conveyed in IU's acting, and I like her but I see her flaws.
I watched My Mister, I rated it 3.5 because I like the plot and the main leads' acting, but nothing more. I was not moved, I did not cry, I did not emphatise with them because of those cringe moments ruining the mood. This is a slice of life, that's why there is no romance. It's a slice of life meant to teach people the importance of life no matter what. Some people here in the comments said the original did not work for them, but for me I was disappointed exactly by this. The way of teaching was very very bad, it's like you are at a funeral and you start laughing nonsense and repeatedly, that was my perception of the drama. No mood, no empathy, nothing. A message so important DOES need the right and appropriate way to be conveyed.
Laughing is not so important compared to what they need to teach.
The remake is moving me more because it does exactly what they MANDATORY NEED to do : using the actors and the plot to teach and convey a message. I am mesmerised by Jiang Jiaqi the way I never was with Park, because I can feel the right way his mood shifting, his sorrow, his integrity. Same goes for Zhou Yu'an compared to Ji-An.
Ji-An is not exactly someone wanting to fight for her life or someone that wants to rise after a fall, she does not matter at all. It's not a poker face, it's lacking emotions and it's not what the drama teaches.
I'm sorry if you did not notice all of this in the drama, but I noticed.
Do you know the meaning of "spoling the mood"? That's what was My Mister not for me only, and personally i can't feel moved if you totally ruin the mood destroying the sorrowful and grief atmosphere which is teaching me something, how to fight in life is important.

I love the pace, the setting, the atmosphere. Everything is melancholic and heavy at the perfect point, and yes, it's poignant. Jiang Jiaqi is so serious but too good and charismatic he's perfect. He's our 大叔 (dàshū) : "我的大叔" (Wǒ de dàshū). Zhao Youting was the right choice in age, charisma and acting range.
I like You'An resolution, aloofness but good heart. She is not someone act lightly but she has morale, when she can due to the situation. I can't dislike no character at this point and I'm happy with everything. They are conveying the right message at the right time with the right pace.
Perfect cast and it's still growing in chemistry despite the lack of love story, no one needs it.
honorable mention to my boy Zhang Xincheng in his bad boy era and I still love him.

the voices are unique on their own, but i prefer Mark Chao. He is more human than Lee in his portrayal, more true in his way of behaving.

the problem is that this plot is NOT made about laughter, but based on resilience. I agree that the beauty of the plot is in this meaning, but how can you convey it if you low the weight of the difficulty?
I watched all the 4 episodes of this remake and I perfectly see this message even in the slightest details. The message is resilience, never giving it up. The balance you say i have never seen it in the original, not once. When you laugh hard you lose the feeling of trying to not to drawn, which is the drama's main aim. My Mister had a wonderful premise but very bad execution, that's why I said anticlimatic. I can't feel the despair and sorrow if you laugh, I can' feel the meaning of those being thrown in despair and wanting desperately to live.
The drama should teach a basic " never give up, no matter how lo low you fall you can always rise again", and sorry, My mister never left this message and it's not only me saying this.
This remake remembers the message, not the actors which are only tools to convey a message. This remake remembers to teach the audience to live, it's a hymn to life that in those grieful moments it's very important to remember.

it's way better

this remake is way better in every possible way. This plot is made to be heavy, depressing, harsh, and the original forcibly limited it with some anticlimatic comedy scenes... i coudln't feel the heaviness at al and I didn't like it. 4 episode they cut those kind of scenes and even those feeling less heavy are melancholic. This should not have any kind of lighthearted elements, that's what the original failed

I didn't like the original, never find it emotional because it was too anticlimatic in some scenes

Where can I watch it?

I like IU but her characters was unbearable. Zhang Zhifeng is making her aloof but understandable for a 20yo. I prefer her way more than IU.
China always keeps main points, that's the main point in doing remakes.

First episode I like it. I'm glad they kept the melancholic vibes without doing exaggerated in the few light scenes, few seconds only and I'm glad because they are not anticlimatic like the original. The keep with the flow more naturally. Zhao Youting is simply majestic and I like Zhang Zhifeng's aloofness. They cut those anticlimatic scenes I didn't like in the original while giving more importance to the right topics the drama values more.
China never disappoints.

Did NOT like the original AT ALL, i didn't like the anticlimatic more quiet moment in a deep topic. From the trailers this remake should cut those moments, luckily. The seriousness, depression and heaviness of the topics should be overwhelming

Another side of history that should be more known and explored. I like all the seasoned cast, glad to see Ning Chang again in a drama. I like the pace of the drama and the tension growing slowly
