fictional but true intention

I really hesitated to watch this drama but because of the main leads I just did. He is an awesome actor and fills this role really with depth and sense. Both did great with their characters giving them life and telling the story of their characters.

This is a fictional story but ... it is indeed filled with true characters and true little stories as you can find them all around the world within the wars happening.
There is a woman crying for the son, the kids crying for their parents, friends departed, lovers killed. All you can find nowadays and the sadness behind those wars is really well described in this drama.
It delivers reality and this I think was the intention - not a pure romance, not a sweet cute ending, not a happy life because this is mostly not real.

It only needs the word "war" to let you know that those dramas somehow never going to have a good ending.

I think all characters, main and side did a really great job in delivering those special moments. Little things you will find in war and peace. And if you watch closely some of them have a meaning, deliver a messsage you can take in your own life.

Also, the ending.
It was the only way out without suffering, the only way both would live together without losing the other half because this was the biggest fear of both. And it was peaceful.
I really cried not because it was sad - it was beautiful how both found their freedom together. And this is how it should be.

So watch this drama if you are open for sadness but also for hope.
Watch it if you believe in true love but also believe that a sad ending for others is the best for the lovers.

It serves!

It serves just everything. (for me)
While watching this first time out of curiousity, now I watched it like 30 times.
For real.
There are always details you miss, always things in the background you just noticed.
The OST ist amazing, the drama-gliding through all episodes, the unexpected plottwists.
Its a great visual, not only the scenes but mainly because of the actors.
Ji Sung & Jin Young are amazing, even more together. I wished they would get another drama together.
Some people might not like the character build from Kim Ga On, or might think Kang Yohan is really the devil but read between the lines, take a look behind the scenes and you will get hired as addicted lover for the characters and their chemistry between them.
I wont spoil too much about the other characters or how they are involved just know that they are doing also a very awesome job.
Overall, this is how a show should be like.
It should make you come back at any time, to feel comfy and to sink into the atmosphere.

predictable change of sidecharacter/ignorant maincharacter

I dont know where to start with that one honestly.

the change of the character from Situ Ling/Chao Yuan is really predictable in my eyes.
Because of the female lead Ming Yi and her ignorant behaviour - she was cold, distant and didnt even try to understand her so called friend. Of course at some point everyone would turn around.
why they didnt came up with another solution. Even at the very end she just stared at him cold and distant. Just kick him down finally and you are done with him so my thoughts.
And with that I was not really happy about the ending Im honest. I dont want every character to have a good ending but what was that? A bad character developement on one side and a stating walk on the other side. But we are to believe in a really good love and enemy to lover thing. Where was the friendship? You cant say you are friend with someone and treat him like a nobody. Also from the empress and the others? At early point he was Situ Ling and nobody asked about what happened with him or why he turned or did bad things? Also, the little fox, where did she go? New llife? No revenge? Would have been a fine ending she would have appeared at the very end or at least made a "kill to save him" movement.

I dont kow, I have mixed feelings. Characteres were great, without any doubt and as mentioned character developement good on one side but on others it wasnt.
Costumes are awesome and the special effects too.
