If you want to try to watch a C-historical try something within your favorite genre, so at least there is familiarity. Also try a C-historical that is shorter than this one first, probably around 24 episodes (they are not 1h plus long per episode). Then when you somewhat get used to C-historical you will want to try longer ones like this.

No I don't have any knowledge of Chinese language neither reading history books. All searches are just from internet. I got the info from Wikipedia. But I agree I still think the brothers are somehow not related. Chu Chu is very observant in details ;D

Oh I did a bit of historical dig, lol... Mr Xue is not one of the brother's real father. His father (Emperor Wuzong) and Princess Xiping's father (Emperor Wenzong) are brothers. So technically they're cousin so it makes sense if he's Jin Yu's mentor. The current emperor is Xuanzong. So it's Wenzong first, then Wuzong, then Xuanzong. Based on history Xuanzong reigned for 16 years, so there is no way Duke Chang (there is Wuzong's last son named Chang) will take over the crown. Xuanzong's successor was not him either ;D

Yes I remember too, but then both Jin Yu and Jin Li refer the Witch Doctor as 'our father'. Not sure that their dad had two women before besides Xiping cos she seems loves him so much. I'm still kinda confused the connection of the elder characters, lol

i don't see any new contender in Ep 17 (Chu He you meant?), but it's funny to see Jin Li princess carries Jin Yu at Ep 20, lol
