I absolutely love this drama. I'm waiting for the last 7 ep to be subbed.I am sure I will miss it so much :(
Hopefully the last ep (49) will be released this coming Monday, too and you don't have to wait for the following Monday!

Do the 2nd leads Leng Yue and Jing Yi end up with each other?
did you read the second installment title 仵作娘子 too? I want to know if the sequel related to the first one, that can make the drama has an open ending.

If you want to try to watch a C-historical try something within your favorite genre, so at least there is familiarity.…
I don't know any Cdrama recap blogs that does regular updates. I usually google every dramas I want to know the recap with keywords: drama title, 'recap', the last episode number (if I want to know if someone recap until the final). The same way I use with kdramas too.

For this drama: you can use mini recap https://cyn-lynn.blogspot.com/2021/04/the-long-ballad-recap-and-review.html. But she doesn't put every scene in detail, only the romcom scenes and other scenes that are stand out per episode. If you can read/understand google translation I can give you another link that is more detailed.

come to think of it ive been curious to watch chinese historical dramas but i feel like like i would be just confused.…
If you want to try to watch a C-historical try something within your favorite genre, so at least there is familiarity. Also try a C-historical that is shorter than this one first, probably around 24 episodes (they are not 1h plus long per episode). Then when you somewhat get used to C-historical you will want to try longer ones like this.

Xia Da was consulted during the scriptwriting. I am pretty sure she shared what the ending she has imagined to be ;D.
