After an assassin attempt on Crown Prince Yu Fei Chen failed, on his wedding day the top assassin Yue Jian is sent, pretending to be his arranged bride, to kill him. But when she arrives there, the Crown Prince is supposedly dead being assassinated. His assistant Du Bin told her she had to die too, following the custom. Yue Jian told him that she was pregnant with the Crown Prince's child. Du Bin doesn't believe her, so a royal physician is summoned. But she knows how to manipulate her qi and the physician hears the fetal pulse. Since Yue Jian carries the royal heir, she is released.
Thinking her mission is done, she goes back to her boss. But her boss told her to get pregnant for real to infiltrate the palace and poison the other royal members. The boss gives her a secret token because there are spies on their side. So she goes back into the palace and bumps into the second prince, Yu Fei Fan, who looks like the Crown Prince only that his eyes are blue. She wants to have sex with him, to get pregnant as per her boss's order. But Yu Fei Fan also has the same flower token so they are on the same side. Yu Fei Fan told her that because he was born with strange eyes, his father had locked him up inside the palace. Yu Fei Fan lets her go because he wants to know who is the real big boss behind Yue Jian.
But Yue Jian is still suspicious that the Crown Prince is not dead so she wants to test him. She went to the casket and wanted to poke his eyes. Of course, he wakes up, pretending to be resurrected and she pretending to be happy that he's alive. They proceed with the wedding ceremony. It seems like they consummated the marriage by the end of the episode, but I doubt it because he knows that she's an assassin.
The next day while the King summons the Crown Prince, Yue Jian takes advantage to meet Yu Fei Fan to discuss their plan. Yu Fei Fan stalls by saying his brother is difficult to deal with. So Yue Jian leaves to poison her husband with a bowl of soup. He knows about the poison, so after he drinks the soup he kisses her so she runs away. Later he spits out the soup.
In the evening, Yue Jian invites Yu Fei Fan to drink because her boss tells her that there is a potion that can temporarily make someone's eyes turn blue. She wants to know if his eyes turn back to their normal color, thus he is Yu Fei Chen in disguise.

I agree with you cos in the Webtoon Hyun has a split personality. So I was confused when in the beginning scene seems he was possessed by an evil spirit. Plus also, in the past, before DID was researched and coined as a psychological disorder, people way back then thought that people suffering from mental illness were all demon-possessed.

If they used the European style armor, guaranteed NRTA would not let it pass because they deemed it as too Western or non-Chinese. Instead of having to reshoot all over again, the production team smart move was to make them ancient Chinese style.

When this drama was added on MDL back then in 2021, it had fantasy and sci-fi genres based on the 2004/2006 original Web novel setting, which is interstellar war. But the drama adaptation pulled the war back onto the earth, lol, in fictitious ancient China, to reduce expensive production costs (because sci-fi needs to be done mostly in CGI) and to easily pass the censorship (patriotic China heroism versus Star Wars-like plot).
I think the sci-fi genre should be deleted from the MDL genre list.
The brief fantasy scene is possibly because the production team wanted to insert a xuanhuan element to not disappoint the novel/donghua Chinese fans. Hopefully, we will see more fantasy elements in the upcoming episodes, cos that is what makes it different than the regular historical/period drama. 😊
