After Hai Qing Yue became a researcher, she was ambitious with the parasite project and used Xiao Xiang as a subject. The research was a failure and Xiao Xiang is dead. Because Hai Qing Yue feels guilty of her best friend's death, she becomes Xiao Xiang. Zuo Yuan and Luo Qiang were Hai Qing Yue's university friends and fellow researchers, but both guys liked Hai Qing Yue. Zuo Yuan is the financial backing for the research.
Second major spoiler: At the end of the drama, an employee from Zuo Yan's company visits Luo Qiang who is in jail. Wait? So the research is not a failure but a success. Luo Qiang lied. He brought a third girl in and she found Hai Qing Yue in a test tube. To pass the NRTA review, it's written that Luo Qiang is imprisoned.
If this drama is a regular-length drama, probably it will become clear. Because it's short, the plot seems rushed. The editing is confusing. But if regular-length drama maybe won't pass censorship because of the human genome project, human trafficking, and DID. Probably become someone's only dream, lol.
But why it's said to be continued to S2? Idk if I want to watch S2 cos initially I watched it for the leading actress Zhu Jia Qian.

In this drama, he says he is 29. Then he has his 30th bday. But honestly, I don't see much age gap physically. FL is also tall and doesn't act childish. ML doesn't look or dress old.
