I personally accompanied my father to the oncologist because he told me something was wrong and I think he was afraid and then my brother came from abroad right after the diagnosis. Because the doctor told us there was no hope. Everybody in the family was aware and visiting. Maybe the difference was that he had to go straight to the hospital and he never left until his death a few months later and that his parents were already dead. We would be there for him at the hospital, taking turns keeping him company and stuff. I personally would have been mad if this was hidden from me. BUT everyone is different and I can understand why someone would hid it. But it's a gamble with people's feelings and memories when they're gone. Because this time was precious even if it was extremely difficult, I don't regret the pain.
