The author didn't want us to read the book and they adapted the drama to be less problematic. I don't think we have to compare them. I'm happy about the drama, I don't need the details of the book because it's irrelevant as they meant to keep them in the book. ChiCheng from the book is not the same from the drama

It's a comedy. Slapping someone shows how little respect you have for them. It's humiliating. ML is humiliating all the bad guys for the sake of comedy. In my culture as well it's worse to be slapped than being punched.
