Thailand is notorious for their love of white skin. You can not see any actors with dark skin as a important leading…
my family are systematically oppressed in Thailand by the Thai Chinese and i see the blatant racist portrayal of blackface on tv numerous times. Of course i'd want to change that.
not gonna happen. GMMTV made it clear they want Bright to have a non-BL acting career with the way they made 2gether…
"Bright is one of the few actor who talks well about future gay roles, even explains what he which kind of plots he would want to do with a gay chracther."
Cool story but he just watered down a "gay drama" into a bromance because he wants to be the next Mario Maurer. thats called gaysploitation.
"If you read the correct translations about his highschool issues"
which i just did. She listed her classmates and over 7 sources (written in thai). You lack the credibility to discredit these sources because 1) you don't go to his school like the translator did 2) you're not thai 3) you're a biased Bright fan that will say anything to protect him.
"to his close relationship with his uncle that is like a father to him."
having a gay uncle does not undo the damage of bullying gay and trans kids in highschool.
"just shows how blind you became to the campain that's been around to destroy his career."
I actually sympathize with Bright on SOME things. The delusional chinese antis who believe the Coronavirus is a "non chinese virus" and are harassing him because of Nnevy's statement. Also the "one china" BS they slandered him with also. But the bullying scandal is not something i can sympathize with and the fact that its being erased by biased Bright fans who view him as some perfect angel.
not gonna happen. GMMTV made it clear they want Bright to have a non-BL acting career with the way they made 2gether…
He has chinese antis who hate him for the smallest transgressions. And yeah he does have a gay uncle but that doesn't mean what he did to the gay kids in his school can be forgotten. He was only able to get away with it because he hung around a highly influential student. Its another example of corruption in the thai school systems.
Definitely agree about the lack of acting skills. I guess that's kinda true about the white privilege thing, but…
Believe me when i say Chinese people are the root cause of all the problems we see in the Thai media today (as well as systemic racism). You should humble yourself and stop the chinese nationalism. We already have to deal with the CCP supporting our Junta dictatorship government, their gentrification, and building dams to cut off our water supply in the Mekong river. We also don't need them also STEALING our identity. Instead worry about how your country has no free speech and why your government is lying about the coronavirus.
White privilege does not have a place in Thai society and unless we see a mixed Black thai person being treated the same way as all the mixed white celebs are treated, i will not shut up about it. My only problem with Bright is he GREATLY benefits from white privilege. Do you think a dark skin person can get away with being a horrible actor like Bright? NO! and dark skin thais barely get lead roles in the first place!
Definitely agree about the lack of acting skills. I guess that's kinda true about the white privilege thing, but…
"Ew. Presumptuous and rude."
Not as rude as calling someone chinese without even asking? The world does not revolve around China and not all asians are chinese. Viets are not chinese and Thais are not chinese. FYI ethnic thais are genetically similar to Viets than Han Chinese!
"I didn't say they were n't overrepresented, just that it was more so for Chinese. While we're on the word 'Chinese', you understand that Chinese applies to both a nationality AND an ethnicity...right?"
Yeah but you were previously making blanket statements on all actors being chinese. Which is false. A majority of them are MIXED chinese (just look at Mew Suppasit's mom for god's sake), but you were also taking away the identity of the native thais and mislabeling them as chinese too! We should also point out that not all mixed chinese actually look chinese FYI (aka Mew)
"Hmmm I don't think many people think that when they think about Thailand tbh. lol"
LOL but i literally just argued with a bunch of filipinos who were saying that Bright looks thai? Some even said that Chalita and Maria from Miss Universe looks "thai" when in reality they're both mixed white too. CLEARLY thats not the case. So what the heck are you even talking about?
Mixed white actors are misrepresenting the country image all while there is a severe lack of diversity and that is the fault of the Chinese elite (which you unsurprisingly choose not to criticize). We see dark skin mixed chinese like Chimon and Dark skin thai like Singto and Earth, but where are the dark skin women? Jennie doesn't count because she is mixed Indian hired to make dark skin women look like Circus Clowns.
"That's true ALONG WITH the fact that those of actual Chinese descent are still overrepresented."
But not as over represented as Mixed white. Mixed Chinese accounts for a majority of the population in Bangkok while mixed white does not. Thats a big difference. There are also thai celebs who are from the North that you falsely grouped up with these Mixed chinese celebs from Bangkok.
"Your presumptuousness is funnier. I'll say it again: Chinese is an ethnicity too. In the same way that you can be born and raised in China while being ethnically Tai, you can be born in raised in Thailand with several generations there and be ethnically Chinese. Also, I don't know if you've been outside of Asia yet or if you really live here, but people mislabel all Asians' nationalities all the time. To think that Koreans go out of Asia and never get mistaken as Chinese and vice versa is hilarious."
But what we're dealing with are chinese nationalist going out of their way to claim anyone in Thailand with yellow skin as chinese and let me tell you, that is absolutely false! I've met chinese people who were darker than me yet i never went out of my way to take away their identity as a chinese person, yet you think its okay to do the same to the Thai people? Okay....
I don't take offense to those who ask first instead of those just making blanket statements like you are.
not gonna happen. GMMTV made it clear they want Bright to have a non-BL acting career with the way they made 2gether…
no they're not. Several people were silenced due to police corruption. The police in Thailand is underdeveloped and does not work for the people but often times for the government and huge corporations.
Bright hid behind a powerful company GMMTV to silence those who were speaking the truth. Several of the sources were proven to be in the same class as him.
If you don't know, there is a lese majeste law that the government incorrectly uses to shut down freedom of speech.
Definitely agree about the lack of acting skills. I guess that's kinda true about the white privilege thing, but…
LOL i knew you were a chinese nationalist.
You want to talk about overrepresented? Mixed white is considered over represented because they makeup only a tiny percentage of the population yet are primed to frequently get lead roles more than any other ethnicity. So much so that you'd think the streets were filled with mixed white. The main reason they are held in high esteem is because the Chinese elite constantly props them up for nefarious purposes (aka skin whitening industry). At least you could argue that because mixed chinese represents a good portion of the population in bangkok (less so in the rest of the country) that the representation is somewhat justified but the same can't be said for all the mixed white in lead roles. I have a huge list tbh and its shocking how frequent it is.
and to correct your statement. Its more like the "chinese look" is overrepresented in Thailand. Many native thai in the North and Northeast can have yellow skin and can pretty much pass as chinese. I am ethnic isan but i have mislabeled as chinese because of the ignorant stereotype that people believe the only "real thai" is dark skin and round features. My identity as a Thai person is constantly being erased. I get called chinese by other asians so much that i even got a DNA test to see for myself.
I find it funny how people don't mislabel Koreans as chinese yet what makes you think its okay to mislabel a native thai as chinese? its insulting and offensive tbh.
Toptap is MIXED chinese. He is from Nan province after all. Pure ethnic chinese in bangkok are rare even. You incorrectly labeling him a chinese person from the start shows your nationalistic tendencies tbh.
Bottom line: mixed whites >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> pale mixed chinese >> pale skin native thai >>>>>>>>>>>>>>> dark skin mixed chinese >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> dark skin native thai >>>>>>>> half black
And if you want me to give some examples. Bambam is an example of a dark skin mixed chinese. Though i admit girls are more discriminated for their skin color. So thats why Bambam is still able to get famous. If he was a girl, it'd be another story.
That is the real racial hierarchy in the country's entertainment industry.
I don't see it as white privilege actually, more like he got the part because he's "HOT"... he needs to learn…
Sorry but this doesn't represent reality. This idea that colorblindness and equality exists in Thailand is absolutely false. As a half black japanese person, you do realize that someone like you would have never gotten a lead role even if you were talented in acting right? This is what i'm talking about. Mixed white actors like Bright can have the privilege of getting so many lead roles within the past 7 years despite a huge lack of talent. They are handed jobs, they are not earned through talent.
You see it through Mario Maurer's costar Pchy (fully thai and dark skin) whose acting career dissipated after Love of Siam while Mario's flourished. Pchy was still doing gay roles after that movie. And with the point i made before, top tier actors in Thailand are not only mixed white but they don't do gay roles. This sort of tidbit matters because Bright is mixed white and guess what they tried to do in 2gether? Make his character STRAIGHT as possible in BL. I don't think a full asian would have had the privilege of watering down a drama like that.
I also have to point out that the MOST FOLLOWED thai actresses on social media are not fully asian. If it were a truely colorblind society. We'd have more of a variety of top actresses who are Khmer, Karen, Lao, Lanna, Hmong, and mixed chinese. Thailand as mixed as they are with different asian tribes, its still considered a majority ethnic asian state. That is what represents what we see on the streets.
And if you still have this view of colorblindness in the Thai acting industry. We see MORE Thai people in blackface on tv than Half black Thai.
not gonna happen. GMMTV made it clear they want Bright to have a non-BL acting career with the way they made 2gether…
All are from Thai-to-eng translators and the first source went to the same school as Bright (who listed over 7 sources and all of them are written in Thai)
I don't see it as white privilege actually, more like he got the part because he's "HOT"... he needs to learn…
Yes, he fits the eurocentric beauty standards that exist in Thailand, which also falls in line with white privilege. That is exactly the reason why hes more popular than Win (who has that chinese look)
And the main reason the show seemed off was not because of comfortability (though we already know about the scandal Bright had earlier in his high school). The main reason they had to water the whole show down was because they want to make Bright the next Mario Maurer aka A-List actor beyond BL. Most of Thailand's top tier male actors are actually mixed white and none of them ever do gay movies. And in the same vein as Mario Maurer (also mixed white) they had to go out of their way to make Bright seem straight as possible even in a BL. If you watched Love of Siam, then you'll know what i'm talking about. The whole 2gether series is basically cheap exploitation of the gay community to get some quick fame for Bright. Had they not casted Bright and maybe someone that was full asian or darker, i bet you Sarawat would have actually had more skinship and maybe even a kiss scene.
Definitely agree about the lack of acting skills. I guess that's kinda true about the white privilege thing, but…
You're dead wrong. White people are seen as above chinese/asian people in thailand. Urassaya, Mai Davika, and Chompoo Araya are the most followed on Thai social media. I don't know a single full asian actress that is as popular as them on Thai social media. Full asian/mixed chinese is seen as below mixed white. You see that Bright has way more followers and views than his costar Win even. That is proof enough.
And as far as i know, Toptap is from Nan province which borders Laos. There are HARDLY any chinese people in that province. All the chinese people live in Bangkok. Do your research about the country before making baseless claims please.
Also you're argument also still fails using toptap and green because they've been in a SUPPORTING role for majority of their career while Bright who is mixed white has been in many LEAD roles since 2013 and still sucks at acting. This is what we call a FALSE EQUIVALENCE.
ONE thing i will give you is the chinese elite are responsible for most of the colorism in Thailand. They own the thai media and are the ones who prop up these mixed white celebrities in lead roles (which they do in order to sell skin whitening, another industry they own and profit from)
Reading through comments and I'm really confused as to why some people keep on coming back to this page just to…
the drama exploited the gay community though? Thats more than enough to keep hating it imo. I didn't see a beautiful portrayal of men in love. I saw two men half-assing it into a bromance to get quick attention from fangirls. It surely worked because they're the most followed at GMMTV atm.
Meanwhile the other GMMTV actors who had the balls to do their gay roles justice don't get nearly as much attention.
It takes a downward turn after Sarawat and Tine move in together, then the last two episodes achieve maximum suckage…
The reason for the "Bromance" is cause GMMTV wants Bright to have an acting career beyond BL. Thailand did the same with Mario Maurer in "Love of Siam". Love of Siam's ending was a huge copout for the same reason 2gether's ending was but i won't spoil it for anyone who wants to watch that movie. Basically If you want a big superstar acting career in Thailand, doing any homosexual scenes will hold you back for sure.
Bright used the BL world for fast fame, but with the acting skills he has, i suspect that fame won't last for very long.
Sorry but Bright can not act at all. White privilege in Southeast Asian countries can land you a lead role in tv shows but talent is something that can not be easily taught. He has years of experience as an actor yet Win was stronger in terms of basic skills. I wish Thailand will one day learn to embrace god given talent over looks and skin color, otherwise their dramas will continue to fail as did 2gether.
Cool story but he just watered down a "gay drama" into a bromance because he wants to be the next Mario Maurer. thats called gaysploitation.
