This trend of caucasianizing Asian actors has really gotten out of control. I was getting that "uncanny valley"…
Yeah, when I saw Naito Shuichiro in that promotional photo with his arm placed awkwardly around the other guy, I thought he looked too much like Michael Jackson. Very off-putting. But in this first episode, he looks more normal, more Japanese, and more attractive than I expected. It is distracting though.

Yes, he is somewhat homophobic, and he still feels guilty about using Shinomiya. He has a lot to overcome before they can fall in love and get intimate. Season 2 maybe? πŸ˜„

I loved the opening scene from Shinomiya's perspective. The "is it already rotten?" made me laugh. And I liked…
It's not clear to me that Fukuhara is in love. He realizes that Shinomiya is perfect and he can get easily caught up in Shinomiya's charisma. But Fukuhara also feels unworthy and insecure. He is totally clueless about love and relationships, and he's afraid of being foolish and making mistakes. Same issues that Kiyoshi Adachi had in Cherry Magic.

Title Given Spoiler
I don't think it was supposed to be. Mafuyu was just grieving on stage 10 seconds earlier about the death of his…
I agree. The "kiss" was just one small step beyond the earlier pats on the head. By moving in for the kiss, Uenoyama meant a few things: "good job" for doing the near-impossible (surprise lyrics), offering support for the bawling Mafuyu is about to do, showing appreciation for helping him overcome his own ennui, and signifying his interest in a future romance. All that is much more meaningful and appropriate to the situation than "a hot kiss" would have been.

Title Given Spoiler
happy ending
"Happy" only in the sense that there is a budding romance and a kiss. That turns out to be the side story really, IMO. The ending (just like the entire show) is truly sad because it's about the lead character and his childhood friend working through their guilt and grief after the shocking death of the person closest to them. No 'happy tears' in this one. Lots of bawling though, after several episodes of bottled-up emotions.

Qing Ming (with a devilish grin): "I really am a freak."
Yuan Boya (also with a devilish grin): "From one freak to another, let's toast!"
🀭
What?!! Suddenly and unexpectedly, Yuan Boya's entire motivation changed. (Blame it on the alcohol or the fake spell, I guess.) Qing Ming barely makes any effort and people insanely become enraptured and willing to die for him. (Maybe he was born with it. Maybe it's Maybelline.)

I read a theory about his blood being O -ve so he can donate to all but can't take blood from all but only O-ve.…
That seems cold-blooded, doesn't it? (Pardon the pun.) But you'd expect a mafia boss to do something like that. Reminds me of those scifi movies involving clones on standby for spare parts.

In this cameo, Wayne Song says he remembers Aaron Lai's character from his high school swimming days. In Swimming Battle, they played characters that competed with one another on opposing teams (if I remember correctly). That's the connection/continuity.

On A Man Who Defies the World of BL Jul 24, 2021
Who hasn't had a 'Zettai BL ni Naru Sekai' moment? I'm remembering a time in a Korean bathhouse. A good-looking, athletic (and naked) stranger seemingly came out of nowhere and suddenly started chatting me up. If I'd swooned (because of the overwhelming aura and/or the heat), would I have ended up in love or hitting my head on the floor? I'll never know. 🀣

Yes, we both know. You described this so well, and your examples are spot on. Thank you.

Typical human behavior, unfortunately. Too often, we give each other permission to be hateful and toxic, using "righteous anger" or "just having fun" as a rationalization or excuse. I find myself needing to take extended breaks from these online communities. They become like poisoned wells.

You were right to call out the misogyny in the comments about So Hee. It's getting harder to ignore. Ugh.

Title Light on Me
It bothers me when people say So Hee is evil or worthless. (sigh)
I'd say So Hee is intelligent, honest, straightforward, determined, loyal and protective of her friends, and not evil at all. Da On has his reasons for wanting her around. He doesn't have much time for her because he's usually busy. However, it appears he honestly enjoys her company, and he tries to make her a priority. And whenever Da On tells her directly that he needs to focus elsewhere, she gets on her way because she respects him.

So Hee deserves empathy, and I'm hoping she gets more character development. She has wanted Da On to see her as a love interest rather than a sister. Perhaps, that shift in perception/desire will happen with Nam Goong instead. That would be fun and better for her, I think. We'll see.

W-Why was there more progress between the ex and Shi Lei ? Hello? I mean?? Imagine seeing your ex that hurt you…
Yu Zhen seems very confused by it all, and so am I. And why did Shi Lei have that (wet) dream? The chemistry between JYZ and his ex was so hot and it seemed more like a sexual fantasy than a nightmare. At this point, I'm almost expecting a threesome in the final episode, because why not? Nothing is making any sense. πŸ˜†

OK. Thanks for clarifying for me.

I think SW and DO have been on the same schedule in understanding their own feelings and recognizing each other's intentions regarding TK. But, when I think about how viewers and both characters have reasons to see DO's and SW's intentions toward TK in different ways, I can understand your point better.

- DO's sincerity is questionable. Is DO treating everyone the same, or is TK more significant? I think SW mostly has been fearful of TK developing a one-way crush on DO, rather than thinking DO likes TK.

- SW has given mixed signals and is very awkward. So he's easy to misunderstand, I guess. It's kinda hard for me to believe DO was completely oblivious to SW's attraction.

Anyway, all of this should make for interesting confrontations between DO and SW until everything between them gets worked out. Good storytelling.
