Also, the way Ritsu forced Masumi to confront his true feelings about his mother, saving Masumi from wasting the rest of his life on his toxic, manipulative mother. That also was an act of generosity.

And if I had to choose between faith in Shulin or faith in the fake emperor (who might already have been killed in battle for all they knew), I'd focus on (1) helping Shulin take out the empress (2) talking him out of doing any unnecessary homicide and then (3) dealing with the political fallout.

I'm not convinced social and cultural norms are the same for everyone as you suggested. Monogamy may be idealized for some gay men, especially in the beginning of relationships, but even so it's often experienced as temporary, not static. Seems there's way too much heteronormativity in these comments.

I like your take. But why do you (and others here) think that Ritsu "cheated"? It would be cheating only if there was an agreement to be monogamous. There definitely wasn't an explicit agreement between them. Masumi assumed too much based on desire, self-entitlement, and a self-serving delusion. Why would Ritsu indulge that and compromise his independence and happiness? Better to cut Masumi off.

I just finished ep 2, then remembered your question. Yes, I agree. This show seems to have a lot to say about gender, sexuality, fluidity and adaptability. I'll keep watching.
