The story was good at the beginning but like a lot of cdramas it fell through in the middle. The female leads story was being told well but there was a lot missing from the male lead. Like I wanted to see why he was feared and that wasn’t shown. His struggle as a military man and the distance that has now been drawn to his uncle wasn’t portrayed as well as it could be. They definitely should have splitterit into two seasons instead of one because according to what people have said about the novel. A few pieces were missing in order to make full sense of the story. In the end I felt sorry for the uncle. His story couldn’t have had a better ending in my opinion. The old emperor was one hell of an insecure man and XZs uncle ended being a long standing victim of his. As for the second lead. I liked how the complicated feelings between them were. When I was watching it I couldn’t tell if the 2nd fl ever loved him bc despite how broke Qi Min was, she pitied him and at the same time took care of him but I realized in the end that what she might have felt wasn’t completely love nor hate for him. She even said it himself l, she pitied him. I think once she saw how he sacrificed himself for her, she realized he wasn’t all to selfish.Personally can’t imagine loving a psycho like that. I would have gotten a restraining order.
This is very intruiging. I look forward to the future episodes because a lot of cdramas have a good start and fall through in the middle of the story. They said that Zhang Linghe is being dubbed but it still sounds like his voice just softer. Does anyone know if he’s being dubbed by someone because it doesn’t sound like that to me at all?
It started strong by it kinda fell through when it started with love story of main leads. There wasn’t enough build up for me to fully digest the love story between them. And Sa DingDing’s song is truly a well made song but they overused in the drama. I found myself skipping a lot of scenes because the story was no longer intruiging. The amnesia got a tad bit dragged out and honestly I can’t pity the princess. Like you threw yourself at a man who has never said he’ll love and gave you multiple chances to leave and even told you he’s not capable of giving you a loving marriage and you still decided to go with him. I can pretty much imagine the ending of this drama. ml doesn’t want the throne and his brother also doesn’t want it. That only leaves the princess who will someohow return and rule because the argument they had in ep 24 kinda hinted at it. Overall this story had potential but there was a lot where I just wanted to ask the writer what they were thinking. Also I have never seen an emperor who was so eager to be killed by their son. Almost funny. Back to the sister…her story is boring me because I can’t take her seriously after throwing herself at a man you barely know. I just kept wondering why no one told her or warned her about that man. All she knew is that he was a prince from an enemy kingdom. if that would have changed anything is something we’ll never know.
The plot is really interesting but I find the acting of fl lacking. She’s not expressing enough in situations where you expect more. One may say that just how she is as a character but even stone cold faced characters express more sadness, confusion and anger. She carries her expression very lightly on her face and not in a good way. It’s very noticable and I pushed myself up to ep 6. The acting of the others are better in that regard hence why I’m still watching.
Never ever have I cringed this bad at a drama. The acting is not good. I don’t have anything to watch so I forced myself to watch this and I think it would have been better if I just stopped.
I don’t know but it kinda rubs me the wrong way that Xiao Yao is constantly trying to prove the demons that humans are that bad when they have been that bad. It‘s starting from the wrong side tbh. Humans need to stop hurting innocent demons for no reason(simplified) and then demons can see that humans may not be that bad. We’ve seen how Xiao Yao is not interested in gaining power and finds it hard to accept that she is a demon. Later it is said she‘s neither human nor a demon. I‘m currently on ep 9 and I‘ve seen her try more to convince the demons when they say something bad about humans KNOWING how they mostly feel about humans. Yes, both need to accept their differences at some point and the humans even more so but the conflict is also much deeper than that and I don’t see Xiao Yao understanding the gravity from the demons side and she keeps saying humans aren‘t all that bad, when being hunted and attacked even when they haven’t done anything wrong is all they have known. They say she has a pure heart, yes. She‘s also extremely naive in terms of what is going on in her world.
I heard they’re not going to be kissing scenes in this drama. Is that true? I saw it under a comment and they say that Liu Yunin said it in a live or something.
The first episode was just messy. You could see that they’ve made many cuts and sped it up just for them to get to the tribulations part and the fights scenes were a whole mess. I couldn’t keep up with what was going on. I read a few “spoilers” for the plot and they changed everything what made it seem interesting. For once no sm and sfl would have made the story much more unique compared to other xianxia dramas and the reason why the fl and ml had to go through the tribulations changed. This would have built more character for the fl and showed more personality. It would have quite a nice twist to it actually. Because from what I’ve seen till now she doesn’t seem feisty.
The acting….well it’s ok. The fl voice over was just weird. It sounded like someone else did it and then it was her own. I don’t know if she can’t speak clearly when acting or she’s just too quiet when acting but it doesn’t match. Like what is being said and what her mouth or rather the way she’s mouthing it doesn’t seem right. Her expressions aren’t also great. It’s a bit better than her last but it’s still not good. Since Ding Yu Xi was in it, my expectations were rather high. I haven’t finished all the released episodes yet so this is my input till now.
The costumes are pretty and all the aesthetics too but all those won’t make it great if the acting isn’t as great.
I still don’t understand why fl will bring calamity to ml. It hasn’t been explained well. Can someone please explain it to me? It’s clay it’s confusing in the drama.
The drama is nice and all but it’s giving “see what TCM can do?!! You should do it too!!” instead of “this is TCM and this is what you can do with it”. It feels more like an advertisement instead of sharing knowledge like the best way I can say it is almost political and in a way what’s expected in a society but in a traditional sense(???). Just the way it’s being approached just feels off. For example Peng Shi Yan being constantly against TCM to promote its benefits. Most cases in the drama feel promotional instead of it being cases. I feel like I’m watching some sort of advertisement in some scenes instead of just being shown the knowledge in TCM. I can’t quite express it well but overall, the concept of the drama is nice and it’s good that they’ve taken TCM as a theme in a medicine c-drama. It’s quite fresh imo.
But I can’t help but feel every c-drama that I watch that like involves heavy topics in a job doesn’t come off of being shown but rather as some kind of promotion for the job. They’re still entertaining but I don’t get why they make it so advertising. Is it only me who feels this way?
I can understand that FL feels conflicted but why the hell are you torturing someone who HASN’T committed the crimes he made in the future. All of that hasn’t happened yet and has she forgotten what that voice told her in the mirror of the past. Like I was annoyed at how she was handling the situation. She didn’t logically grasp the situation and did stuff that only contributed to ML becoming more evil. And just when you thought things will get better it DOESN’T. Now ML’s progression towards being the Devil God has increased after you opened up your hatred towards him to the Prince Xiao Lin. And poor ML last hope was diminished after it was made clear that truly no one cares about him when he was spying on them.
FL contradictions herself a lot. She says she will help him but at the end she’s doing the opposite. To help him means you will try to REALLY understand him and his actions. Empathy isn’t enough, you need to sympathize with him. ML becoming the Devil God is understandable because after all the constant abuse and betrayal you just snap.
(This is not a justification but an understanding of the reasons and what led him to that path)
Seeing his suicide attempt she should know how grave the situation is and simply keeping him alive and not genuinely caring about him doesn’t help. I don’t see it working until FL genuinely cares about him. Which will take time, I know. But I don’t think in the first life she will genuinely care for him. I guess it will start in her so to say second life of them “together”.
Now I know how this story will go quite predictable I’d say. FL will fail and we are getting like 3-4 reincarnations of them.
If you have read the novel and know everything, I’d love to be spoiled in the replies
As a general he has to have experience. That comes with age. It's a cultural thing with women sometimes marrying…
As I’ve mentioned it before historically speaking it’s accurate but it’s still weird and relationships between an adult and a literal child which gets normalized isn’t culture but ped*philia + age DOES play a role when it comes to love.

….you completely missed what I meant. The iffy part is that the relationship is between an adult and a child. If the age gap finds to be between adults then there’s no problem.
I don’t like how the romance is beginning bc of their age. Shaoshang is 15 yrs old and Long Buyi 21. It’s historically not wrong but still feeling iffy about this. I wish they aged her up a bit or made at least Buyi a bit younger.
Yan Dan only has half of her heart left. Ying Yuan’s plan was to “evacuate” her which took a bad turn bc…
She’ll get hers one way or another. For now she hasn’t received any bc she threatened to expose them and with the evidence Ying Yuan can keep her at bay. We have to be patient for a while bc Ying Deng has hers coming soon in the late phase of the mortal realm or early to middle phase of demon realm.
