I actually agree with a lot of what you’re saying. The way WQFG’s emotions were portrayed made the “love…
I understand he was “pretending” somewhere. But when he fought Ru Mu, he was still “pretending” to be cold and heartless. But he shed real tears for when he had to vanquish him!
Yes I understand! The part I don’t understand is he says he was pretending, but he literally shed tears and showed emotion when he had to take out undead RM. But he did not cry for QT!
That is the discrepancy.
For someone whom he took a thousand swords for earlier, he didn’t shed a single tear. No look of torture as she stood dead in his arm. No grimace as he forced the tree seed out of her.
Whether it was Cheng Yi doing the acting or Cheng Yi himself, those actions speak louder than words ever could.
I do agree with you on some level about FG 'love' or 'affection' for QT but maybe I am trying to find rationale…
Everyone hates him, but he conveyed his feelings forthright. He had a chance to take her out with him, but he would rather die alone than kill the love of his life. Now that’s powerful love.
I do agree with you on some level about FG 'love' or 'affection' for QT but maybe I am trying to find rationale…
Yes! Qin Tong deserved better! At the end he goes on a monologue about what he had to do to save the world. He says he feels guilty about(?) her and other sentimental things that are hardly a confession of love. He speaks about how their love came from the dust, but they’re just merely words.
Like you said, he appears to have profound feelings for her, but not only does he not show it, the poetic and long winded word salad he spews convinces me he is incapable of expressing love.
A love born from the dust… maybe her love yeah. I don’t know what his was. I wonder if he even knows.
I know many people would disagree but I actually love the writing of this one. I love how the writer maintains…
It’s much more nuanced than a sudden change of personality. I don’t believe Fugui was a person who had values at the beginning. He only did what he was told. His sole role was to be the alliance’s demon slaying machine. No explanations needed.
I believe out of loneliness and a slow awakening, he saves Qin Tong. There he begins to change. He questions the reason for killing all demons indiscriminately. He begins to show emotion and reason, which is exactly what the alliance doesn’t want. They don’t want him to be an individual. He is their weapon and nothing more.
That was where the story was going. They were showing that FG was more than just a killing machine. He was human. And humans are complex and have emotions and flaws. To have him develop all of that and have QT go on the journey beside him and then suddenly make her seem like she means nothing in the grand scheme of things is just atrocious and is what I cannot agree with.

Yes, I understand what you’re trying to say. They have a mutual understanding. I get that. The problem I have is that she is doing the tragic star-crossed-lovers-crying-her-heart-out and he’s just standing there like a statue! No hug, no tears, no emotion. It’s perplexing. A mutual understanding doesn’t necessarily mean he has to be so stoic about it.
If his character were truly like a daoist monk, for example, ok I would get it. But he’s not. He’s nowhere near that because he ponders about his loneliness. He longs to see the world “out there.” He yearns to be ordinary. He says that he’s a sword to slay demons and it makes him feel cold. So he knows how to feel. And he looks for her when she’s gone. But then bam! He kills her like he’s the demon slayer again. It’s uncharacteristic from the earlier episodes where he showed slight emotion.
I actually agree with a lot of what you’re saying. The way WQFG’s emotions were portrayed made the “love…
Yeah she was willing to let him have it because she loves him I guess. He takes it but is emotionless about it. You’d have to watch it. It’s not that bad. His character is just perplexing and not the pure and great soldier everyone makes him to be. He is a conundrum honestly.
I actually agree with a lot of what you’re saying. The way WQFG’s emotions were portrayed made the “love…
Yes. I’m glad I’m not the only one who noticed he didn’t cry for her! He killed the person he “loved” and didn’t shed one tear! He did a bunch of hesitating and wavering, but didn’t shed a tear after he took her life. It’s not even sad, it’s laughable.
At first I thought his acting was because of his being a “daoist soldier.” He doesn’t know how to show emotion. Now after finishing the drama, I can’t tell if it’s his character or the actor himself who isn’t able to show emotion! For a character that is supposed to follow the way, not showing emotion is okay. But along the way, he wavers in his path and still shows nothing in his treatment towards Li Yi Tong. She outacted him!
on ep 4. ML is strong because his mom gave him all him her power? or whose power does he have that make him so…
They called him the “bingren” and translated it to “soldier” in English. But when CY was doing that interview with everyone he had an ice cream bar and they guessed “bingren” so I’m thinking like a double entendre. Like a cold person or ice person. Lives up to his name honestly.
I wouldn’t call this a tragic love story… bc WQFG didn’t love her at all. He cried for RuMu and his father and others, but he didn’t cry for QT. I found that quite disturbing. I wonder if the director insisted on that.
It’s as if he was lonely and she came along for the journey but in the end was dispensable. I don’t know about all that. Gives me an icky feeling.
Everyone hated QinCheng, but at least he sacrificed himself for the person he loved and was devoted to, however toxic the obsession. If FG was resolved on his path, he wouldn’t have wavered and strung QT along. He wasn’t resolved. He wanted to be free, but in the end he gave into the “greater good.”
I thought Cheng Yi’s acting was kind of bland here. I haven’t watched any of his other ones. But from clips of TJOL, he seems to be able to laugh. Here he is stiff and emotionless. I get that’s probably part of his being a daoist soldier. If so, the “love story” was unnecessary. Unless they added it just for the sake of being a sacrifice. All around weird love story.
I’m pretty sure they were trying to go for deep meaning, but it just gives me the ick. I love a good tragic love story. This was not it.
uhh..even without the romance the story is just bad...storyhas to actually be good to be appreciated. Just from…
I’m not answering for anybody. It’s my comment to your comment. Each has hisherthey own opinion. You’re upset. I get it. But I for one like it. Weird how you haven’t learned to accept other people’s opinions. They’re not facts.

That’s his characterization! That’s the point of his character. He’s manipulative and harbors hatred. Of course he’s not going to be a consistent person. They made fugui perfect and this is his opposite. That’s the point. Anyway, no one in real life is a consistent character. Many good people come with all sorts of flaws. If anything, FG character is too squeaky clean. But at least that’s because he’s following the dao.

I mean she gave half of the spirit stuff FG gave her to turn them both human. He’s pretty important to her. I figured he would be the one fighting over her when she did that. FG turned QT human and in turn she turned QC human. I don’t see how you are missing that connection. It’s profound. He’s blindly and passionately fighting for his love. He embodies hatred, love, and obsession. How is that not a good character?

You should keep watching to see how deep his emotions are!
