I enjoyed this from the start, solid writing. But just as poster below indicated once FL gets cast to mortal world the story really seemed to start dragging hard. Dozens of episodes now and barely any progress.

Was so close to dropping this because of how the ML treats the FL in the first half of the show. There is no reason what so ever that FL would fall for ML except that it says so in the script.

He basically treats her like shit. By far the most abrasive, rude and aggressive ML I've seen in any drama. Liang Yi from Autumn Ballad comes to mind but still not even close to this ML.

Try checking out Hometown cha cha cha, My liberation notes, Our blues.
All are slow pace, slice of life, rural area-ish and all terrific shows. If you like Meet yourself I'd say chances are high you will like these as well.

First 8-9 episodes or so are okay, she learns some awesome martial arts skills but then once she gets off the mountain she somehow becomes completely useless for several episodes.
Constantly getting manhandled, its really annoying.

Remember similar thing happened in show Qing Qing Zi Jin, FL in that show was supposedly super strong and she later learned martial arts from a kick ass master but still in some situations she was completely useless getting restrained by random guards.

Lousy writing in both instances. they completely mess up the power scaling/dynamic.

Another negative in early episodes is the older sister disciple, she is just badly written. Evil for the sake of being evil. She is just a plot device for FL to get past, no depth at all. Does not help that the actress is really overacting, almost to a parody level.

At the beginning you think this is martial arts/wuxia but after she leaves the mountain in the first episodes it instead becomes a imperial harem drama, complete shift in tone of the series, hardly any martial arts at this point at around from ep 8 to ep 25.

Another stupid thing about the older sister disciple is that when she got her faced maimed and had to cover herself up but then when she takes the cloth off there is just a tiny red little scar on her cheek. Hardly any visible scar .. just stupid...

Ok, I have not read the LN. Does he actually end up with anyone else than Waner or is it like in the show that he only flirts/bonds with other girls but it wont lead anywhere?
Regarding the Northern qi emperor it was pretty obvious that is was a female dressed as a man. Lets hope for a season 2 soon!

9 episodes in, this is such a good drama. Slow pace slice of life with some comedy. Beautiful scenery..For me I already know it's going to be one of the best this year.

Pretty solid drama.
One issue for me is the overuse of the goat sound effect.. not a good choice by the director. Quickly i got annoyed by it and it definitely made my viewing experience worse.

I am giving this iconic series a try with the mindset that I am not really into Xianxia. Only at episode 3 but so far so good, nothing major to complain about! I'll keep watching..

Ah ok! I didnt pay enough attention to that part but honestly if that is the case then it is pretty interesting writing.

I think it is weird that they wrote so many scenes with ML bonding with saintess at the later part of the series when we know it doesn't really lead anywhere since ML is in love with FL at first sight. I think for me this is a really weak part of the story. Imagine the balls of the writer if ML falls for saintess and actually breaks up with FL, would be unprecedented in c-drama.

So much to like with this show, having a blast so far.

One jarring negative for me at this point of the story is the introduction of dark river. It is fine that they are strong but it is just bad writing that they could wreak so much havoc, kill so many strong people and all of them survives and escapes every encounter. One or two of their leaders should have been killed off facing the sword deities.

I would say blood of youth has more fighting.
But chances are very high that if you like blood of youth you will like ever night. Same goes for sword snow stride and joy of life. These 4 shows are similar. In terms of just the fighting, putting aside the writing I would probably rank Blood of youth at 1, ever night at 2, sword snow stride at 3 and joy of life at 4. Keep in mind that all 4 shows are really good.
Ever night deserves a higher rating on MDL in my opinion, should not be any less than SSS or JoL.

This started out pretty solid but at around ep 25 I am really loosing interest. Fast forward a lot now, prolly wont drop but not really invested any more. In my opinion it turned too "soapey" focused more on romance and stupid love triangles/squares. Rolling my eyes at the flight attendant hurting her hand and covering it up, like why? Very uneven/weak writing at this point in the story.

Edit: One thing I like is how they wrote Jiang Tao as an antagonist. He is not a typical one dimensional "evil" just for the sake of being evil. They balanced him well I think, so far he doesn't break the rules or step out of line... even reprimanded his son in law when he screwed up. He is very unlikable but not completely out to get rid of the FL either, which would be the typical soapey approach.

This series is just amazing. Goes into my personal top 3 for sure. No romance, focus is on the hardships to control the yellow river. Amazing performances, highly recommend.
