The first few ep hinted nothing tbh, and the hospital bed at the beginning was because of another operation because of which she returned to her hometown to rest. also i think she lost her leg in her fathers accident cuz it was was shown she was there in some flashbacks
The mom overdid it in best choice ever but it wasn't that far off from Asian culture, just very exaggerated. also idk much about China or what's going on there but from what I have seen soo far online marriage is important there specially if the person isn't married and is over 30 (which is the case here). Property + marriage + looks = success in China
