I really love wuxia shows as well haha. Most of my top favs are wuxia shows. I gave the show a 6.5 Dfbb was the only reason I didn't give this show a 5 or something.

I feel the same way as you do. I really hate the use of CGI by Chinese dramas. Especially in historical/period dramas. It just doesn't fit in with the dramas. They should either use a minimal amount or make everything CGI so that it's uniform.

I actually just finished the 2013 version and I read your review from 5 years ago haha. I really disliked a lot of the show/characters. None of the characters were likable except for Dongfang Bubai. They made all the characters seem pretty dumb without any ink of logic except for Ren Ying Ying..... I hope that this version is better. I probably won't be watching it though. I'm currently on a quest to finish all of recent/decent Chinese historical dramas lol.

Yea it's so annoying. So many problems with this series. I really like it. This drama is like the old Chinese historical dramas from like 10-20 years ago.

First you got the episode cut as you mentioned. Then you have sites with messed up subs or showing up as not subbed even though they are subbed. Then there are different versions out with different amount of episodes and different cuts. I just searched and watched a cantonese version and honestly it didn't help. I'm more confused than before lol. No wonder barely anyone watches and rates this drama on my MDL.

When does this get good? I'm on ep 9 and everything just seems so contrived. Also hard for me to get past the fact that like half the show is pretty wonky CGI.

Not a big fan of weiyoung and scarlet heart ryeo. I was a big fan at first, but both stories gradually flatlined...

I was a big fan of this drama, but honestly the stuff is getting old. The plot is basically "oh how much can I screw up Weiyoung's life". It just goes on and on and on. Sometimes I wish chinese dramas were shorter. It would make for a more succinct story. As these conflicts are so repetitive. Basically someone tricks her or someone she loves. Then she resolves it with a clever trick. Rinse and repeat.

Sucks that no one is done subbing this series. I have to watch the final episodes with ~70% of the subs. Really takes away the emotion of the show when you have no idea what's going on.

I thought this show was just average. I was hyped for the beginning, but I guess everyone's giving it a 10 lol.

That part about his high school gf or whatever was really cute. It definitely added some depth to his/the main character's romance.
