No separation is not 5 years in the novel, first there is some time leap after the leads get together during which they keep maintaining their relation while handling their respective duties and some times they are not even able to see other for long time, but at one point ML gets into very dangerous situation (but didn't call FL for help) and yanke is working in background with other humans to trap him, later yanke blackmails FL to give her lantern in exchange of antidote for ML. This led to separation of leads for some time duration.
I think drama is giving their own twist to this arch going by these previews and are not purely following the novel. Also with the direction they are going I don't think yanke character is going to last for very long, instead they are going to get him out of the picture soon.

I know union of the leads was sweet but still not at par with the novel at all but I am letting it go because earlier drama has added many sweet scenes themselves plus they have double standard censorship to pass.

As a novel reader I totally understand the motive behind hesimu' s rejection but the general audience who are less used to see this level of pursuing from a male lead's side will and are finding it kind of one-sided.

From the story so far it actually appears like their romance is one sided it can be kind of turn off for some but in the drama they have atleast added some jealousy bit on He simu' s part, in the novel she genuinely wanted Duanxu to marry some mortal and live a normal life hence she rejected him. I guess it has lot to do with longer void arch in drama were we see duanxu pursuing Semu more openly for a longer duration of time in comparison to novel that's why it comes off so one sided on duanxu's part. Script writer should have done a better job with that.

They actually make her a very complex character, who has many things on her plate , plus her living a 400 yr of long life will make her or anybody kind of indifferent to most of the things around them, but still experiencing a mortal life which she desperately wished for a long time fills her with curiosity and happiness somewhat similar to a child.

I think duanxu is an ENFJ while Hesimu I guess she is an INTJ.
