I’m only in the first episode and completely lost. It seems that the rich guy and the poor girl grew up together and used to be like siblings until two years ago, but now she doesn’t recongnize him and he is pretending not to know her. This makes zero sense. None at all.
How soon do they clear this up? It is distractingly unbelievable and I can’t watch anymore.
Seriously underrated as is the original Japanese dorama. Anyone who has worked as a temp in an office trying to impress people who don’t bother to learn your name in the hopes of landing that permanent job will certainly relate.
I believe this one may set the world record for the number of ignored cell phone calls in a drama. It gets ridiculous. The characters are constantly calling each other on screen, 10 - 20 times per episode, but everyone ignores almost every single call they get. I would love to go back and count. There are at least 100 ignored cell phone calls shown on screen, and that’s a conservative estimate. I’m pretty sure the final number is over 150.
What was going on with his friend in the past and the doctor? I got bored and stopped watching.
It’s a pretty messy wrap up to that sub-plot. Turns out the Dr. is working for the mom but also has his own agenda. He knew the kid who died and is trying to make Ji Soo Hoo worse either because of resentment or just to see what happens ‘cause he’s an evil Dr. or something. Mom and JSH figure out what’s going on and kick him out of the house. With the kid, it turns out he and JSH were in the hospital at the same time and both fell in love with Song Gue Rim. JSH Is supposed to deliver the kid’s love letters to SGR but hides them and gets to know her instead. Then the other kid (who was terminal anyway) dies in the accident and JSH blames himself. He finally tells all this to SGR and she’s fine with it
I would suggest anyone planning to start this read the reviews for Season 2 as well so you have a complete picture of what you’re in for. None of the narrative arcs are resolved in Season 1 so Season 2 will be required viewing and it is of a different quality.
I'm going to miss the characters. It's a great ensemble cast and many of the guest roles are played by a-list actors which was fun. I really enjoyed it.
Based on the negative comments, I almost didn’t start watching this, but I’m a sucker for a contract/arranged marriage scenario so I dove in. While it is no masterpiece, it was very entertaining with some very enjoyable moments. Mt recommendation, if you like contract marriage dramas, it’s worth the watch.
Sato Shori is awful in this, but I really like the corporate intrigue and revenge sub-genre, so I still enjoyed it. It made me miss the Shomuni series so much that I started watching that all over again. I tried to add it as a recommendation but keep getting an error message. I would also recommend Haken no Hinkaku and (of course) Doctor X.
With so many cases of amnesia in South Korea, you would think that they would have developed some effective treatments by now. Such a sad epidemic with no end in sight apparently. /s
I finished this a couple weeks ago, but I keep thinking about it, which is a sign of an effective drama. What sticks with me is that this is probably the most realistic portrayal of a person with un-diagnosed clinical depression that I have ever seen. The term "depression" is never used or even mentioned, but the main character displays every symptom and her friends react realistically telling her to just snap out of it, not understanding why she can't, and then avoiding her when she doesn't. The main character as well doesn't understand why she can't find any happiness or satisfaction in her life, even in small doses like her friends can. I found it heart-breakingly true-to-life.
This is very much underrated. I really enjoyed it. It moves at the speed of a slice-of-life drama, so maybe some folks got a bit bored, but the characters are great and the humorous moments sneak up on you. It is really good.
I am a JDorama fan over KDrama and I will warn you off the Japanese original of BoF. It is total cringe. Every other version is better.
The Japanese originals of Hana Kimi and Itazura no Kiss are superior than their adaptations, but not Hana Yori Dango. It is the poster child for bad JDorama.
I can’t believe I watched the whole thing. It’s dumb and gets tedious, but I stuck it out and was not rewarded. It’s like eating a seven course meal and still feeling hungry.
On the positive side, this one is much better than the original and I even give it a slight edge over the Chinese adaptation (so far). Which raises the question: am I now watching bad dramas just so I can compare them to other bad dramas? Time for self relflection...
The good guys are so easily outsmarted it makes it hard to root for them. No country deserves to be ruled by such idiots. They are bufoonishly stupid while the bad guys are practically omnipotent so the "action" and "political intrigue " is all very cartoonish.
Loved it! I found the final episode hilarious and thought that it wrapped up most everything well while leaving room for another season if possible. I didn't read the manga though, so I didn't have any expectations.
