For me, the series is smoothing out a lot of what i didn't like in the novel. For me, personally, the show is, so far, superior to the novel.

And as an aside to this, i think the first iteration of the series (filmania) was maybe more faithful to the novel and therefore would have been less enjoyable for me. I like where Be On Cloud have used the text as foundation, but built something more cohesive.

If it's the scene a little later, with Porsche shirtless, Kinn clothed (and sweaty/lustful) against him, with the mirror behind Porsche, i thought that was just a continuation of aforementioned scene. Am i missing something?

In the La Forte trailer? The scene where Porsche slaps Kinn, accusing him of not
trusting him? I assumed that was gonna be a version of the Vegas-juice spill-shirt-off-Kinn-losing-his-shit scene. Or the Porsche-injured-Vegas-in-his-room-Kinn-losing-his-shit-scene. Or any other scene where Vegas has been near Porsche? Post the outside the bar chat? Post the car-incident?

Unless they make a thing in the next episode about condoms being used in the ep4 scene, i doubt that little Porsche melt-down-broken-condom scene is gonna happen, because i'm relatively sure last night's event was (at least initially) presented as bare-backed. I think if the post-sofa-std freakout was on the cards, a condom, a wrapper, a fumble in pants pockets, would have been included last night. Otherwise, it doesn't make sense. Unless the freakout happens in the morning?

There are lots of drugs that can cause an "aphro" effect. When they say "aphrodisiac" its not just an ED drug like viagra. It could well be GBL or GHB - colourless near odourless liquids which promote euphoria and disinhibition but also sedate to relax the body, and can cause vomiting. You are "high" if you've taken it. (Youre also dead if you take too much, btw)

There are lots of "aphro"-type drugs.

If they were following the book it was a sedative and aphro. Aphro to increase desire, sedative to make him compliant.

I have an interest in Gay Asian cinema (as opposed to specifically 'BL' TV shows) so I am hopeful i can find new/undiscovered titles for you.

You are so right! We absolutely do all have different opinions. It's great that comment sections like this exist so people can come express the wide variety of them. Positive, middling, unsure, angry, negative . All of them. Its great to have the space to do it. And give space to others to voice theirs, even when it doesn't match our own. 👍

Oh my gosh, other peoples opinions and taking part in discourse can of course change how I see something. It can even modify/moderate my opinion on something. Of course it can.

When your opinion on a given thing is in place, that's it? Set for life? No one elses experiences or opinions are taken on board lest they modify your position?
And if we are just talking consumed media, hell yes others opinions have definitely fed into how i experience something. It deepens it at times, rounds it out. Gives me a greater appreciation. Especially opinions that are even slightly in opposition to mine.

Except on SA being hot. No one is ever gonna get me on board with the shipping of fictional couples where that's the foundation.
I will take on board dissenting opinions on everything else. I'll think about it. Ask questions. Then i'll throw it out or i'll keep it. It might not change anything for how i think about/experience a show, but it might give me another lense from which to watch. How is that a negative?

That's such an interesting point, that I would like to expand on a wee bit, if it's OK:
If a negative opinion changes how a person feels about a show, it is because that opinion has caused them to think critically about the episode or show. Actually taking on a dissenting opinion and parsing it, is so important. If it changes how someone then feels, it's because that person felt there to be some merit in the viewpoint, or it highlighted something they themselves hadn't seen/thought about/ reacted to.
That's vitally important in all aspects of life and is very much a part of watching a show as a community.

This needed to be stated. Your opinion is a valid as others, irrespective of the position you take on any given show. Comment sections would be boring AF if everyone sang off the same hymn sheet.
No two adults are going to watch a show the same way. Life experience, attitudes, personality, etc, all change how a person views something. And thats what gives colour and flavour to a comment section.

Just as others who love it can post multiple times after they watch each ep, so can those who don't.

I think you should hate-watch the entire thing now, tbh, and see if anything does change your mind. Wouldn't it be funny if it did? 😇

What kind of shows that you've watched recently did you like? What are you looking for from it?

Have you watched any of the older Korean films? There are a couple which have a greater (imo) queer/specifically gay lense, than some of the more modern shows (which feel predominately for-girls-who-like-boys - which is fine as 'know your audience'). This does mean that the "happy ever after" might be more scarce as in its the 90s/society context.

I also want to say, I know you got beat downs for it but your episode-by-episode take-downs had me howling. I've not watched this, as I said (I came by cos insta compelled me), but I have been coming back to see if you'd watched any more. Others might have been annoyed at your reviews, but you gave me a laugh. Thanks!

Honestly, that's valid. I have a three episode rule. Ep one is generally all introduction and exposition, ep 2 is gear grinding, ep 3 should be fully up & running. I was recommended a show called Fringe years ago. Ep1 and 2 did nothing for me, but the teaser at end of ep 2 intrigued me. So i watched Ep 3, then inhaled the rest of what had been released at that point.

Everyone has their own way of judging this. You are one and done, and thats cool. I'm a wee bit more lax. And reading the comments here, i have no idea what other folks judging standards are.

In the interests of being honest, I've not seen SCOY. Relentless IG posts on my explore page brought me here to have a read of general opinion. I mean I dont actually need to watch it, I'm pretty sure said IG pages have pretty much posted most of it between them 🙃

Yeah. Cherry Magic did a bunch of stuff that kinda played with the conventional norms. I know sweet f.a about the source material so I don't know if it was taken directly or was part of the adaption. It was nice to see the the "tropes-by-rote" applecart get a bit of an upset, though. Long may that continue!
