Nah, I doubt that and why? Look at how many gay characters there have been lately in Korean dramas? I can name more than one, so it's not like they are in stone age. Those characters are test subjects and for now Koreans did love them so it is finally time to give those characters a proper happy ending. If they keep making safe choices as you said, the industry won't change and gay characters will keep being pushed to side with a negative ending like it happend with Sweet munchies or Moments at 18.
