Recency Bias, it's a phenomenon where you will remember something you experienced recently as better/worse than anything you experienced before. They did not give a definition, so everyone could make it what they wanted.

Also I have some personal favourites, that I would probably not enter into BOTB, because while I love them I am aware of poor production or cheesy, clichéd storyline. Objectively meh, subjectively sooo good. Secretary Kim would be one of those.

Actually yes, I would say the same thing about the Kawaii factor. I don't know if Japanese women complain about the Kawaii factor as well, but if they do, they are allowed to criticise the media they consume for becoming a bit stale. On the other hand, if they enjoy the Kawaii factor, because it in turn leads to decisive, protective ML and that gives an audience of women who are stressed out with decision making a warm, fuzzy feeling, that is perfectly understandable too.

Just like I understand escapist media geared towards men being full of women who want nothing more than to be ordered around and cute for a man. Gives them a reprieve from RL, where nobody easily does what they wish for.

Recommendation please! I am not into crime and thriller, but everything else I will gladly give a try.

I admit to not being able to handle more than one J-Drama at a time, partly because of the Kawaii, which is annoying to me, but mostly because I can't with the overly innocent FL. Like they are always completely uninformed and helpless, and I particularly hate when there is a kissing or kissing+ scene, the girl just stands or lies there looking frightened. That is not hot to me, and the overly aggressive ML not acknowledging this situations and take it slow... dunno. I have never been in Japan, so maybe that is just how Japanese women are around men IRL, but if it's a trope, I don't like it.

One has to see stories as carthartic or escapism for their audience. Most of these dramas are watched by women, and most productions are in it for the money, so what gets watched gets reproduced. The more women (most likely housewives, depending on what time the drama is aired) watch these dramas about women cheating and leaving their stale/abusive marriages, the more shows of a similar ilk get made. Dramas are not moral education, usually.

If you wanted to write an article on this topic I would read it. I hate this double standard as well, though assault is often played as romantic either way, especially in Thai dramas... why that is, would be a whole other topic.
But I stopped watching Cute Programmer, because it was done so intentionally there, not just a drunk dude and a sober girl hooking up, which is iffy enough with either gender.

I didn't see where to vote on this, otherwise Word of Honor would have had three votes or "Dear Missy" would have gotten one.

But it is really hard to decide what the BOTB really is, often I fall into a recency bias. Like I recently rewatched parts of a drama that I thought was be BOTB for years, but on second viewing it was great in parts and not so great in others, making it a cute drama, but not top tier.

I think opening it up on Twitter or Instagram would have gotten more votes and maybe one could have divided it by category. I apply very different measurements to a cute rom-com than I do a more universal topic drama, or historicals and contemporary.

I think a part of that is that K-Dramas get distributed on Netflix a lot, for C-Dramas you have to be quite into it to find the speciality apps they are shown on. I mean a bunch of them show up on YT as well.
If you really have to be into something to find it, you will talk and vote on it more. Hence also the much more heavily discussed BL dramas, than regular dramas.

Sooo, not that I am not going to watch it anyway, but spoiler me: Is there romance in this and what percentage of the plot? Just so I know which mood I am throwing myself into.

I have been into them recently, but they seem to be very hit and miss either with the plot or with the art. So many times the plot is all over the place, as if it was plotted on go and it needed to be streamlined. Probably because they get released on a weekly basis.

I didn't even know these were based on webtoons, except for A Business Proposal, because it was part of their promotion and I read a manhwa for the first time, so I wouldn't have to wait. Oh, and The Wife of the Water God, which I also looked into, but the art didn't render well on my phone. Interesting. They are probably banking on the inbuilt audience and that people also already like the plot.

Now the dude be stabbing himself like a fool, but even like that he still looks so appealing. Magic!

I kind of hate myself for starting to watch things that are still airing.
