I will try to view it with an open mind. But this project is going to have a LOT to overcome and it's going to have to change very little for it to accepted. It's fine to make minor changes for say cultural reasons. But I swear if this turns into everyone dating each other or sleeping around and then it comes out later it was only ever meant to be "loosely based" on the original story I'll be pretty upset. I hate when TV shows are "loosely based on" books with the first couple of seasons essentially being completely based on the books only to later completely go off in some idiotic different direction. I usually don't get excited about US remakes of foreign/Asian TVmovies because part of the charm and appeal is that it's foreign and/or Asian to begin with. I'll do my best to keep an open mind.
I found this drama just average. I love Kim Bum and I'll be honest it's the reason I decided to watch. He's great to look at, but I honestly wasn't feeling much from his or any character. The acting was just ok and I found that I skipped over the majority of the drama not because it was bad, but just because it was boring. I tried and really wanted to become invested in the characters. I felt like it had a lot of potential but it just felt flat for me. I just felt very little to no chemistry between characters. I don't think it's a waste of time, but I'd recommend many other dramas over this one. On the upside, it did have a cute soundtrack.
As much as I adore Escaflowne and think the other titles are decent as anime... no to live actions. Especially the fantasy ones. If they are high budget movies, then perhaps... but the sfx would need to be good so they didn't wind up campy and tacky looking. Also, Peach Girl actually had a live action taiwanese version that aired in 2002; it wasn't all that good. To be fair, it was back in the early days of dramas from manga. As much as I love Hana Yori Dango, the taiwanese version was not great. Perhaps it could be now if there was a taiwanese remake. Also, there was a movie made of "A Girl Who Leapt Through Time". KareKano is probably the best bet as far as dramas go. Of course, all of this is just my opinion. I'd prefer to see dramas made from titles like "Hot Gimmick", "Papillion", "We Were There". A remake of "Marmalade Boy" and "Mars" would be awesome too.
I wouldn't mind paying a yearly fee for Viki, like I do with Dramafever, if it means I can see mainly Japanese TV shows/dramas in high definition. I'm a very loyal member of Dramafever and they've really taken care of me (in terms of specials and their customer service is the best I've encountered to date), I have nothing but the highest praises for what they've done. I want to support as many communities that are fan driven for the cultures I love. I think this is great news and I'm looking forward to seeing how Viki grows!
Perhaps with more than 3 slots these guys would make it on my list, but I felt Han Joo Woo was a bit too obsessive and Rui felt more like he let himself have feelings for Makino only after he couldn't have the woman he really wanted. To be fair I can't comment on Han Kang because I haven't seen 49 Days yet. Here would be my top three:
1. Yoon Pil Joo from The Greatest Love
2. Song Sam Dong from Dream High
3. Lee Kak / Yong Tae Yong from Rooftop Prince
I think the wrist grab is the precursor to hand holding. I think it shows where the guy or girl is at in terms of their feelings. They like them if the wrist is grabbed, it's love when it's hand holding time. :D
How does this even have a rating already? lol - I can't wait to see it myself though. I read somewhere online that it is a carbon copy of You're Beautiful rather than being just based on it, either way, I'm fine with it. I love Jiro, making that argument irrelevant :p
This show in just the first episode is SO close to the movie "Love Me Not" http://mydramalist.com/korean-movie/683/love-me-not…
Thanks for the reply! Just before I read this I saw the wikipedia article about the Japanese series and how it had a good ending so there's at least a chance that this one could have a good one. If not, well, I guess I'll see if I can find the Japanese version! xD
I've only seen 5 of 8 of these titles unfortunately. The Greatest Love is my favorite Asian drama though I do love many, but that one stands out and I can easily re-watch it and usually do if I'm feeling down which is a great pick-me-up. I always look forward to the Hong Sister's dramas even if I don't necessarily like them all. I've re-watched You're Beautiful a few times, but mainly certain episodes or scenes that I found to be cute. I also like Gumiho, but I found the rest, Choon Hyang and My Girl to be just okay and at times boring where I'd skip scenes. Having said that, I do appreciate the unique characters and that I can usually enjoy the supporting cast as well. I think that's why I love Greatest Love, and one of the few times I would've been okay with the "other guy" getting the girl. In My Girl I was disappointed that didn't actually happen! /_\ Great article! :)
This show in just the first episode is SO close to the movie "Love Me Not" http://mydramalist.com/korean-movie/683/love-me-not Not every detail of course, but if you've seen the movie then you know what I'm talking about. The movie was great, but the ending, oh my god... I don't think I could ever watch it again, it's so painful. I really hope that this drama doesn't follow the movie, just maybe loosely based on it! ;_;
can you tell me where i could find the link to watch this movie? thanks.. :)
There may be a better place, but you can find it on dramacrazy: http://www.dramacrazy.net/taiwanese-movie/l-o-v-e-watch/ Although, now that I'm looking at it... it seems like an older movie. I wonder if they did a remake?
This is one of the best Korean movies I've ever seen. But it seems that this is either a love it or hate it movie, there doesn't seem to be an in between. The sequel is just okay though I feel it's worth watching at least once; but not nearly as good as this one. I love the characters in this and even watching it ten years later I can say I still really enjoy this movie!
It was just okay. It had it's funny moments, but no where near as awesome as the first movie. I say it's worth watching, but I have no desire to see it again or show it to anyone.
