the most infuriating bunch
every single man in this series is an absolute selfish lech. bad script where characters keep falling for terrible plot devices, male lead accuses female lead of infidelity every other episode and never lets her explain. prince zhou is a bully, and then in the end the nicest character just gets kidnapped??? are we supposed to laugh?? I’m all for court dramas with political scandals, and a lot of this has the makings of a very good show, but getting there was AGONY. The costumes are beautiful, for sure, and that’s the nicest thing I’ll say for this series. it shows off the beautiful textiles of the Tang Dynasty.Was this review helpful to you?

I’m not through watching this series, and I don’t know if I will or not, simply because each episode is so difficult to get through. The acting is excellent, as are the costumes and story. Each character’s perspective on the events is well portrayed However the story is a familiar one, and personally very triggering for me. I want to finish it, because it IS a very good story, but I also don’t want to put myself in a bad headspace. I do recommend it, but proceed with caution if you are triggered by rape, victim blaming and other forms of assault. Episode 7 was particularly difficult to get through when Ru Lan was interrogated by the Yamen.Was this review helpful to you?
the long suffering female lead
look, we love c-dramas for a reason: the drama, the plot, the costumes, you name it. but good grief. our poor female lead went from one bad situation to another with very little relief in between. every man she comes across wants her for his harem. The phrase “not all men but always a man” does not apply here. Every single man has bad intentions for poor Doctress Tan. Two assaulted her, one being expected to be forgiven just because he finally decided to believe her. In the end she got her happy ending, but I was genuinely just hoping she could do what she wanted all along: be a doctress.Was this review helpful to you?
it’s just meh
I was intrigued by the plot description, it sounded very interesting. Turns out I was wrong. Main girl is obnoxious, to the point of making flat out dumb decisions. the actors are good actors, but the story is so bonkers, it’s hard to enjoy them. At one point I was watching and I just asked myself why I even cared about this plot. Answer: I do not. the characters are flat, music isn’t good and the costumes and sets are meh. Are you bored? this will help pass the time. But I can recommend a dozen other dramas that will be vastly entertaining to this show.Was this review helpful to you?
Justice for all!
I did not expect to love this as much as I do! when the leads finally accepted their feelings, and conquered the first foe, I wondered what could top it, and then they DID. I loved the commutation between the leads, their chemistry was fantastic. When they returned to FL’s hometown, it was feeling like filler episodes, but they were still wonderfully entertaining, and I thoroughly enjoyed the continued character building. super cute series, very fun watch and I’ll definitely watch it again!Was this review helpful to you?
