So with only one episode down, I think I can say they will cover up the first volume of the manga (on which it is based) in these 6 episodes. They have been really doing a good job, I like the series very much. Hands down for the acting of Suzuki Jin (= Uenoyama). For those wondering, they stay true to the manga's first volume and will end just right after the first concert. This means the focus of these 6 episodes revolves almost entirely on the relationship between Uenoyama and Satou + the forming of a band. The manga has 5 volumes out so far (ongoing), so if people not familiar with the story want to read about it, they have lots to do still. Anyway great show and I recommend watching it!
Hmmm strange comparison. Each country has it's own culture in filming. Objectively speaking , ratings are subjective…
That is a valid point. The general idea of a show being rated before completion is not something I personnaly do or encourage. For instance, how can we define a result of a show, when said show is still airing and not completed. For that I only rate a show upon completion and perhaps write a small contribution of general impression of the show in the comment section, but that is just me. While it supports the statistics of being more visible and/or show up higher in search results, I still would provide a more different approach on shows only being able to be rated upon completion of airing (now anyone can rate the show, even if it is not watched for instance). But still, a rating is only usefull to certain levels. For instance: a show can have a killer 10 rating, and while you might think hmmm I wanna watch that show, you find it to be most horrible. On another note, ratings are based on statistics. The more people give a certain "numeric value" to a show they watched, the more balanced out the final result will become. The mean value is thus produced as the "general rating", but this has it's own limitations as well. The only way you can make a difference is by 2 options only: 1) Write a review and/or comment in the thus provided sections and/or 2) give a rating to your own impression.

While it is true Ossan's love, as a comical approach with renowned actors, made the 'BL-flame' light up in Japan and giving production to multiple new shows due to it's popularity (and a production in HongKong, not Taiwan), the market of Japanese shows is rather limited here on a mostly English dominant site like 'Mydramalist'. For cross reference, we should always bare in mind that platforms like these are first and foremost made to address the more international audiances. With some regret, we must also bring in the calculations of the industry as a whole. South-Korea attracts more viewers due to it's "general good quality and production" which makes it the equivalent to a certain western Hollywood. As such, they attract more viewers. For instance as of this moment of reply, a show which is dominating South Korea 'Hospital Playlist 2' has "only 16.500" watchers. The best Japanese airing drama in his equivalent (which is this show, 'Given', has "only 3.800" viewers. On a partial note, "Viki" distributes the content on a good platform, attracting a lot of viewers and subbase to help spread the content, while we have Fuji TV (market value of 20 % more or less) in Japan being once more limited to spreading the content. On a ending note we also have the difference where English (for subtitles and fanbase) is highly positively educated and regarded as a must for Koreans. Making Korean content easily subbed and distributed on various sites to a more international public. For Japan, this is different. The use of English is still far less than it's contrapart in Korea. Making content, subs, etc more difficult to spread to various other sites. So, while I do hope Japanese productions (as a fan of them as well, and Japan in general) get a more appreciated international value, for now we must accept it is a multiplural problem. On another note, while personal taste as usual is subjective in nature, we can express our likes or dislikes as freely over any show. We should however try to see the positivity the effect on the public such shows can have to help break stereotypes and help pave a less conservative way in such countries. As always, the world is never perfect, but while it is as it is, we must search and find relief in the shows that do bring us joy.
"Light on me"- one of the worst K bl drama ever made lately = 8.4 rating , Given= one of the best Live action…
Hmmm strange comparison. Each country has it's own culture in filming. Objectively speaking , ratings are subjective point of views from an audience. Without general rules in how to evaluate, I think we should always be mindfull that the general taste is not always your own taste. I witnessed the "Thai wave" back in 2013, we have come a long way with ups and downs on productions, series, ... But the general trend we can and should support is that even conservative countries like South-Korea and Japan make more effort in breaking tabboo and getting productions as BL out. We don't always agree on the content or how they bring it, as personal taste differs, but we should support the effort regardless as they help break standard mainstream thoughts.
I was thinking about the first episode and to be more specific, about the following line '' Surprisingly my first…
That could actually work fine in pulling it off nice and clean for them all. With the emphasise on the bracelet everywhere, we can expect it to play a vital part
How about the parents/family? Are they the supportive type about the relationship?
We only see 1 episode with them dealing with it. From a first point view negative, that is later in the episode explained as rather surprised and from that point they become supportive. It is however not a major factor in the series tho
Season 1 showed much potential, so I was also looking forward to this more interesting couple being the main focus, but overall I do have to say it was rather forcefully done. I can feel letting it pass for season 1 that they did not feel like showing much intimacy, but with other dramas stepping up the bar for a good portrayal, I did wish they would also deliver on that part. Everytime they needed to kiss, I felt the pain of the actors for needing to do it. I understand the pressure some actors must feel in doing these kind of stuff they do not like, but from a professional view, we should hope they either overcome this or the production crew should just invest in other scenes for intimacy. But making it too forced does not show well in either way.
Good show for watching! They had me worried for a while with the trend of increasing the length of the programs like they do in Korea for a typical drama now, but they managed to do well enough. One of the major likes about this show is the portrayal of intimacy between the main couple. The couple acts normal and shows affection, something we need to see more from now on in other dramas. Well done for the main actors, they definitely deserve more projects.
Just found out this drama is aired by KBS lolz, we should be gratefull the show can keep a strong bromance . This explains a lot of why the plot deviates from the webnovel as well, since KBS is known by the community to be quite conservative.
Since I read the webtoon, I still feel annoyed that it seems the reason why they make Sobin a main lead is to…
Well the lines we have seen so far do make it obvious that Joon mostly is interested in SooHyun, from ep 3 we will see the reversed starting to emerge as well. The interesting aspect is how they will play Sobin in all this. Depending on the original content of the novel it is understandable to tone down the aspect of the brother and make it a season 2 plot,. We can also expect the transition of Sobin being in love with her friend to getting feelings for Joon, even have a little curiousity from Joon for this, but I would find it weird if they make it a couple from that based on the original content of the webtoon. In essence you can deviate from the plot in a creative way, but you still respect the basic line to follow. I just hope the drama does not overplay the input from the character that is Sobin, otherwise it will be too forced
Yeo jun and soo hyun definitely have bromance based on the relationship chart. This drama's adaptation to the…
Directors always get creative with their POV on a book/webtoon, so I'm mostly hoping they deliver, even if it is different from said novel, a good solid piece of show. Based on the potential of the "bromance" our male leads can project, it will help make the show deliver. I mostly hope the romance actually is left out for this season, and build more on the obsessive nature between the male leads (not in a romantical way per se). But so far as a (slow) start, it has done enough to deliver an interest
Browsing through the comments has helped me grasp the context of the webtoon, so people interested can look for it down below. For now based on the info I read and the tags etc I see no problem with the context of the show so far, it looks promising. Sure the webtoon is not over (3 seasons so far, 4th on the way) and the webtoon does have this tag "BL", but like everything the story needs to build up and so does the plot. If they follow the original concept of the webtoon, it gives too many loopholes for a 1h ep show, so they will add more content or scenes to the show. This however does not mean it is queerbaiting or exclusive BL. Just means we get a full season of the two male leads building up there whatever they will have. With a webtoon not done yet, I doubt we will get a conclusive ending + after 2 eps we can hardly say we will know it all. Most trailer scenes were from the first 2 eps as well, so let us be positive and look forward for an enjoyable ride, be it either bromance or BL, as long as the male leads deliver "the chemistry" is all I hope for. So far they do
For those willing to watch it/those who still doubt: watch a few episodes and skip to episode 40 lolz. You get like "pointless" build up from characters and situations who drag on and on which in the end wasn't worth all the time or not really needed for the storyline either.
Good movie, interesting concept (!) adapted from a manga (!). Overall watch it! The best part for me was the story concept, and the ethical debate it brought to me. You have like an event and both characters choose a different path that sets them up as rivals in a way. Both paths are brought realistic by the actors so we should praise them for bringing such fine work!
I would recommend watching the movie. Focus is more on slow burn/real life, the BLjust happens to be a part of it (not the main theme), which I personally can appreciate. It makes it more realistic and gives more focus and content to the overall picture.
Good show to watch, slow burner real life/BL theme adapted from a manga (!) which helps the current elan for BL manga to have a chance on getting recognition and be introduced to a larger audience. The show itself is light, but considering the succes and overall good project of filming/ acting, and will boost further projects of the same genre (like the effect of Ossan's love). Overall just watch it and maybe take an extra step to uncover the magical box of BL manga for yourself ;)
Even if the production had to be limited to bringing like 8 episodes of 20min, what really sets this story apart from most is the interesting concept and storyline. I think most will agree that this series has such potential to be made in a full Kdrama series on it's own. While most shows could be brought with less episodes, here I find wanting more episodes. Overall I recommend it, such concepts is what we need now in BL dramas. Apart from one cut-paste mistake, this was done with ample quality, so be sure to check it out for those who doubt it!
Do you wish to rewatch this? Nowp ... But I believe the people in charge of production have had many faults, cast did what they could and in terms of potential they have done well for their part. Couple compatibility is something not to be underestimated, the audience must feel it. Even for low budget series, there is just a certain amount you should set for yourself as a goal to complete. Last episode was done so bad in terms of editing and story jumping, it leaves more questions than answers... Let us hope the actors get future projects on which to emphasize the talents they have, some might have potential. And in reference to low budget, I have seen recently a Japanese low budget production with a homemade camera, which can outshine many high budget impacted series lol, just need to do well on the parts you do bring!
Chinese media rarely post ahead of time when they will air it, seeing this is however made is hopefull as we lack book 4 being filmed in the series. As of this post, events after this book are being filmed in "Ultimate Note"
