Just as information after some research. Why was the trailer in English (?): there was a license to work with Line TV (international platform), but as we all know, LineTV shared they would stop at the start of 2022. Seems like if they plan on working with a new platform (namely Wetv has been brought up), they still have not reached anything for distributing this on the new platform, which would provide the subs. Perhaps negotiations are behind schedule, in the mean time you can find ample eng subs online when searching right. These are fansubs in circulation, also highlights subbed episodes are available to get the major outline as well from the episode.
Interesting take but why then did they(K10 Global content) put english subs on the trailer and ask fans from abroad…
I can not speak directly for the production team off course, but this could be done for some innocent obvious reason. Like for instance they have a target value of let's say 1000 replies for international fans, if they get the target, they might have considered doing the subs themselves. If not, they know the reach of the show for an international audience is not worth the investment. They will make a buzz online, make you comment etc, (also free advertising in a way), but if not many go for it, well than they consider it a dead track.
Not to mention that by my knowledge the company is at best a small player, so they need a focus on making enough profit in the first place. A series is for production companies foremost an effort to make money, once more international fans don't bring much money to the table. Large companies (like GMM) can attract bigger global sponsors, so they might consider subs more easily (now, not always the case) + the stable viewing counts also provide for more effort.
Last but not least, the issue of copyright and leasing. Is the company willing to let an external player have the rights to export their series to a global content player (like wetv, iqiyi, youtube channel, gagaoolala,...)? With platforms like gagaoolala offering paid license export, the fact they don't seem to be able to host the series (and provide subs themselves for it for example) means the production probably doesn"t consider giving out licenses.
So as mentioned below, first episode is as usual not mindblowing, but still decent. As most have seen the trailer, I do suspect it will get better, the stage has only been set with the first ep. Nostalgic outfits with the blue jumpsuits, not bromance content, let us support the new approach as best we can.
same happened with fish upon the sky, curse of airing a new series after a highly popular one ended, and just…
Sadly that is indeed often the case. Not to mention with veteran actors like Ohm and Nanon that have a huge fanbase of their own. But that is why others like us need to also give our points of view, so neutral or new viewers in doubt can be encouraged to try it out :).
2 episodes watched and enjoying it. Some comments below are a bit too harsh on the negative side. Have I seen better, probably, but I have certainly seen much worse. The story is slowly progressing, but I do believe the chemistry of the main couple will be there (they have a good chemistry in real life also), so that will be a major positive thing to look forward to. They bring also focus on a more comical approach (albeit not always with succes), I still find it more or less ok. Also special shout-out to dressing up like a girl, I can't imagine how uncomfortable that might have been (a lot of actors would pass on that). While it is based on the japanese manga, it is clear that they will follow the story, but divert from the plot as well. Fighting!
Just to bring a different view into the debate. The series had major problems with funding, so being able to release this already is a miracle. That said, the lacking of subs can be easily explained due to no budget and frankly no priority as well. The income for subbing such show is probably 0, more money cost than return investment, and also the focus is foremost on national audience only. While I do find it a shame they do not sub this officialy, this is hardly the only show to have this faith. The international public looks on -illegal- fan subs, but be honest. the ones that do it either get yelled for poor quality (happened here below), get reported, or even worse get tons of people complaining about when and why it was not uploaded yet. I always feel sorry for the subbers in this way, as they want to help the international viewers, but hardly get anything in return for it. As of now, we (international viewers) still are able to follow the major plotline, which is better than nothing.
Sidenote: Platforms like Dramacool*** etc are not subbing directly in thai, but just take the content from somewhere for distribution on their platform (not always legal I believe), so keep that in mind as well.
Some comments are quite harsh on the actors here. I don't find the series majorly lacking with the acting, if any I find the main cast do quite well here (I can give plenty of samples of shows who did not for example). Overall I enjoy watching the series a lot, even if the plot is quite obvious. Not to mention the main couple does not have that much experience, yet they portray the chemistry well (which is the main selling point in a series). Sometimes the success of previous shows from GMM make a new follow-up series more vulnerable for critics, but we must be grateful they provide and invest a lot in these shows. In comparison to other shows currently airing, we don't need to wait for subs, proper investment and good acting. Fighting for more opportunities for the actors and GMM.
Despite being short (1,5h overall) and the majorly present dental product placement, the story itself was predictable but nice overall. It helped a lot that the actors did a great job, with a visible chemistry well portrayed. The story itself did have some script faults where not everything gets to be explained well enough due to being so short, but overall not that much of a bother. The censorship makes it bromance, but the innuendo was clear enough. Overall I did find myself loving it, so extra shout out to the actors that did their best!
Typical sport plot, but with comic intersections. Still a decent watch for when feeling bored or in need of sports movie. Based on japanese original works, but decent adaption.
3 major storylines, divided each into 8 seperate episodes. Sketch like approach that gives small interactions in a timeline, but all in all limited into story progress or character depth. Acting was also not that convincing, but seen worse. While creative and cute at some moments, the censorship and limitations make it not that special, but the episodes are like only 10min each, so you can quickly watch them all. Creative storylines, but could have been better worked out. In my honnest opinion, just not that impressed overall, sorry. As mentioned below, the catstory (first 8 episodes) was the most pleasant for me out of the 3.
Sketch like episodes with different small situations that follow a main timeline, but with gaps in between. The last episode, actually the last line itself, explains the title and the future outcome of the main characters. All in all I found it more confusing, the script contained a lot of grammarly chinese "puns" and loose ends, so just for me not my cup of tea.
Somehow they make it work, so far I like it actually. They are sometimes off with trying to be funny, but I do like the story so far. Hopefully the actors can go forth on this elan and continu doing their best, so they might receive other opportunities in the future. For not having that much experience, it is still much better than other shows. They invested well, so it pays off. Fighting!
Somehow it just didn't work well for me. They outline the main couple's story (a bit too much, so becomes a bit "boring"), but use a lot of side characters with minimal - if any - plot development... seemed more to fill in gaps and spaces for the main couple, which is a shame for the actors and the story itself. While I don't encourage multiple ships making a mess, I found it would help more to have on a +45min episode run some more diversity. Compared to other shows, the acting and locations didn't suck that much tho, so they could have gotten more out of it I think.
Being former idols, their acting is not that bad actually. Story is a bit predictable and all, but so far they do well. Have I seen better, probably, have I seen worse, definitely . Since the plot is more mainstream and the typical +/- 10 min per episode, not sure if it will have a large impact and all, but not that damaging either. Hopefully these former idols can find more luck with acting.
For a 2019 production, this lacks in too many departments. The actors are newbies and should be given opportunities and growing chances, they are not at fault. I do however expect a learning proces from the director to learn from the past mistakes and "grow with experience". Too many shows here have been produced by the same director, and made in the same style (if you can call it that), I don't know... I find it a bit of a waste for future talents to be stuck and trying your best, when they should guide the youth more into bringing the best possible. All I saw was same mistakes being repeated.
I do not want to be harsh, but the end quality is not the best. We get it, budget is tight, new actors need time for growth, finding sponsors is a pain, ... but a story needs a good script and flow. I don't know, I was expecting more from it (scriptwise), you could do a lot of stuff with the plot, but than you see they made this as their nr 1 choice... Maybe working in the medical field makes me more critic than I should for fiction, but seriously they could have made some logical flow choices.
There is a word invented for plots like these: trainwreck... Sorry, but they made so much unnessesary drama that I wonder who thought this script could work well? Sadly they made Sandee less smarty evil, otherwise he could chip away some moments, and we still wouldn't miss a lot of it...
All in all an awesome plot based on a manga. For a live action, this one delivered quite well. Shout out to Watanabe Naomi and her portrayed role, I really enjoyed seeing it. If you doubt it, watch it. It will deliver :)
Too short to make a lot of sense. Not an acting something, but more loopholes in the plot. Sadly we know that it is difficult to make a good plot in 8 short episodes for a lot of series, but we also had pretty decent ones last year. This one will not stick long on you, despite the potential of Eom Se Ung, who did great.
somehow it was okay, it was short, with less time on unnecessary plots and also less time for character building (especially for the other (2) secondary couples). The main couple had a short good plot, but they delivered in acting and chemistry so it delivered the feels.
Side note: most of the couples are supporting characters in the universe of TharnType the series, but unrelated.
