Title Desire Catcher Spoiler
The ability of both MLs to develop trust in and intimacy with one another is central to the plot. I wouldn't call…
I see we have quite a different take on this... interesting!
What I meant with nobody needs a friend like LF was him breaking into LFP's appartment and doing an illegal search. In many jurisdictions the two hairs that he found would be inadmissable as evidence as they were obtained without a search warrant.
A friend is someone where you can turn up in the middle of the night, covered in blood and they will still trust you enough not to ask any questions.
LF has never trusted LFP from the beginning, He has been holding back what he knows about his mother's case even though he knows how important this is to him.
It was also the one condition LFP had for helping them, but LF didn't hold up his side of the bargain, so why on earth should LFP still help with their investigation?
LFP has abandonment issues as he lost his mother at a young age and is desperate to make friends. You can see this already in the scene where he comes to the police office one day and they are all out.
I don't think that he cries because he's ruined any potential friendship with LF, but because he realised that the friendship that he imagined never existed. He said it clearly at his mother's grave that he has no regrets doing what he feels is right. And he also made this crucial comment during the interrogation in ep. 16 when he says: 'Luo Fei, I should never have counted on you.'
This expresses his disappointment with the other jumping to conclusions based on two hairs quite directly. That bitter smile says disappointment, not regret.

I guess were all waiting for Viki lol
Right now, any place with subs will do!!!
While waiting I've started re-watching a few episodes with the Viki subs, but I cannot say that they yield any great revelations plot-wise.
I've grown so used to Land Breeze Level and Old Box - without them something is missing πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

They're not really letting her step into her protector role, as soon as the drama starts to deviate from the novel…
Yep! I really loved the novel because it had a strong female lead who could take care of herself (and the injured dragon), so if they change this part it will be a major disappointment!
The first episode gave me some very strange comedy vibes that I find highly mis-placed. I hope this isn't yet another useless attempt by the script-writer to turn all and everything into a bleeding comedy instead of having the courage of leaving the darkness where it's supposed to be! I still haven't forgiven them for Unchained Love!

Had a quick look at the first episode... Well, it started with a bang, right a one of the most crucial scenes in the whole story but then it fell flat very quickly. Those spirit creatures looked like something out of a bad 80s fantasy movie. And why would they turn the FL into such a useless disciple? She is supposed to be insubordinate and reckless, not talentless and too stupid to learn.
At least they didn't give her a baby-voice, so I guess I shouldn't complain too much...

I hope they wont ruin the novel even though author works with screen writer we all know how they can manage tΔ±…
Yeah, those cartoony things were really annoying! Like something 5-year-olds would watch!
Was the budget too tight for any decent CGI?

Youku loves open ending. It's 3x in a row already. BFTB will have a high chance of open ending also πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚
It shouldn't. The ending in the book was quite simple and clear.
If they deliberately mess this up I will be so mad 🀬🀬🀬🀬

Why is Bai Ya Xing trying to exact revenge on Dr. Ling when he himself is the one to blame for his girlfriend's…
I haven't seen ep. 17 yet as I'm waiting for the subs, but in the novel (volume 1) it's Ling Mingding's wife who commits suicide because of depression. Bai Ya Xing uses this to destroy Ling Mingding's professional reputation and discredit his type of hynotherapy. So either they have changed the story around or you misunderstood...

There's a limit as to how far the friendship between a guy with trust issues and another guy with abandonment issues can go. Even though the kickboxing may look like a temporary fix, no amount of beating each other up can make up for this. It looks like LFP had invested a lot more emotion into this friendship than LF, hence his deep disappointment with LF's behaviour in ep. 16 (and some great "nearly crying" acting from ZYC by the way).
I'm not liking LF very much right now - with a "friend" like him, who needs enemies? He really deserves to feel the loss for a few episodes.

Yes, story of my life! I've always had male friends who were just friends and you cannot imagine the amount of explaining I've had to do!
Friendships can come in so many forms but I have the impression that our society is slowly losing this kind of friendship culture.

No romance here at all not even bromance
It's an adaptation from a detective novel. There was never meant to be any bromance. Normally, Luo Fei would be the lead protagonist of this and the hypnotist is just his side-kick to help on some cases.
This kind of explains the parts with "nothing happening" because they artificially increased LFP's screentime to turn him into the protagonist.

Not really. That's what guys behave like. They fight, they make up and then they both chase after women. Not every friendship is a bromance. I like my BL novels and dramas as much as the next person, but it feels weird to project this onto all and everything.

anyone read the novel, both ML is it in love or what? as drama they might changed it to just bromance...
It's not a BL novel. The underlying novel is part of a detective series that has the protagonist Luo Lei work with three different hypnotists to solve some criminal cases. There's just friendship between them.
I don't know how they promoted this drama, but if people were lead to expect a steamy bromance they are bound to be disappointed by this. The scriptwriters may have tried to surf the wave of popularity of BL-content by making it look like something it is not.

Damn, not my genre, but it’s been a long time since i didn’t watch ZYCSomeone please give him historical drama.…
Yes, he was quite good in the Sleepless Princess, but the drama itself wasn't that great. The start was extremely silly and the ending was so stupid and illogical. Given the number of times (per episode) that he had to carry the FL this should have been more aptly called The Legless Princess.
I also predominantly watch costume dramas, but this one, somehow got me hooked - unlike the Sleepless Princess which took me three attempts to finish πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

I definitely hope there's no hypnotists' war going on or that they're not trying to make it somehow into a no-mask…
The underlying novel is called "Evil Hypnotist", so hypnotism is playing a central role here. I feel that they have already toned it down a lot compared to the novel.
Here we have a more differenciated take on hypnotism (as a form of psychotherapy) as it can be much more serious than the gimmicky circus hypnotism of "when-you-wake-up you're a duck". Part of the conflict between the hypnotists in the novel comes from the fact that some want to turn this into a serious therapeutic profession while others want to keep it as an unregulated scam.
Luo Fei in the drama version seems to be a bit too young to have been in charge of a case that happened 10 years before...

I really liked the last two episodes even though the script-writers are still leaving us in the dark as to how…
Yes, I think it he was just talking to himself (basically rephrasing what he already said at his mother's grave) . The editing makes it a bit difficult to see that the others couldn't hear him with all the noise and they weren't meant to.
When I saw that he had the key to the handcuffs already prepared in the room, it became clear that he had planned his 2nd arrest. I would assume that he realised someone was in his room... As mentioned earlier by Sima the fire seems to take inspiration from the Reichenbach Falls incident in Sherlock Holmes (where the detective "falls to his death" in order to break free from a seemingly all-powerful enemy).
I hope that after failing the second person close to him, in the next few episodes Luo Fei will start to realise that sometimes people are more important than following the case.

I like it a lot, but tastes are different, so it really depends what kind of drama you're looking for...The acting…
Happy to hear that you liked it! I feel the same, but I think quite a few people went into this with some expectations and then they were disappointed and gave a low rating.
I rarely watch modern dramas and initially just wanted to check out ZYC with the dorky hairstyle, but found myself somewhat "hypnotised" to continue watching... 😳
