True. There are just too many tragic things happening to mix in any comedy.
Her being afraid of the ML is just another of these inconsistencies that are created because they omitted the key events that would justify her fear. I mean, other than everyone saying he's a scary dude he hasn't done anything to her.

I think the deleted scenes add to the confusion. They aren't the root cause. The censorship obviously ruins a lot, especially for this drama where many of the important points raised in the novel can't even be spoken out.
Just to give you an example, his obsessive hand washing isn't due to having to comb the Empress's hair... but having to deal with other parts of her body. When the FL hears the rumours she kind of feels sorry for him and at the same time she is puzzled (being an innocent girl) and intrigued. All these wonderfully complicated feelings have been replaced by stupid jokes and rocking a pear tree with brut force (it's not even romantic!)
I find this very disappointing.

I think these problems are due to bad script writing. The FL's character has been changed a lot compared to the novel, so there are bound to be inconsistencies.
I really don't know why they forced in the "comedy" tag. The overall tone of the novel is rather critical on what's happening so it would have been good to reflect this in the FL's inner monologue rather than turning her into this wise-cracking, annoying person.

Yeah, I'm afraid of that too. I didn't like the way she bungled The Blue Whisper. Loved the book, but had to give up on the drama, partly because of the mis-cast ML, partly because of the script bonanza.

Yes, Dream of Splendor was good (would have been better w/o the misunderstanding trope dragging on-..) and so was Love Like the Galaxy (slighly ruined by cowboy-style editing).
For me the best surprise of 2022 was Be My Princess (modern drama with costume elements) - it made me laugh a lot!

Oh come on, that was not all his fault! Chen FeiYu is simply an impossible act to follow and fans just expected to get the same in season 2. Any actor who is not Chen FeiYu would have been a disappointment. Also, I didn't find the plot of S2 as engaging as S1.

What annoys me the most about him is how he keeps telling this imbecile "yes, she is definitely interested, women are just shy..." Learn to read the signs, man!

I guess people are just happy that there is finally a true wuxia drama, not romance with a few wuxia elements (for the ML to show off his prowess).
I like romance dramas, too, but there are just too many that seem to follow the same boring script. I'm so sick and tired of the obsessive SFL/SML, the stupid misunderstandings that go on for several episodes (just because people seem unable to TALK to each other) and the obligatory break-up just before the rushed ending.
So in that sense this drama is refreshingly different.
