And just to add to it, did you catch the promo for their kiss under the fireworks at the beginning of release? Then when the fireworks scene did happen early in the series & they were just throwing snowballs at each other I was a mixed bag of emotions.
I was so relieved + happy for the "editing" because at that point in time in their relationship it did not warrant such intense kissing
Confused & annoyed why the heck did Youku release such misleading promos, and the script even had the kiss in the first place when it didn't make sense there. I was really doubtful of the scriptwriter + production for just filming a kiss scene for the heck of it.
Then to have that dream sequence be inserted in the final arc it was a such a cathartic, full circle moment for me. It was 'Ohhhhh they planned the filming all along.... it makes so muchhhh sense!!!" Like mindblown. My mind + soul was really satiated then. The production + scriptwriting confirmed that it is so thoughtful, intelligent and certainly pushing boundaries of what we can expect from a C-drama (besides the unfortunate fact they had to sacrifice pacing & coherence thanks to censorship). It's so nice to be able to not just love the acting but also the production & story behind it!
Can we just take a moment to acknowledge the clever production + screenwriting choice to have Tan Tai Jin & Li Su Su rewind the time to the Ye Mansion?
1. From a story POV, they could rewind to happier times and TTJ given the love + attention as the well loved son in law and YeXiWu was actually Li Su Su all along. It was a great opportunity for them to express their affections for each other, without playing mind games at that point (except ofc TTJ didn't fully reveal his final true intention). It led to great forthcoming, honest conversation & connection. Then to have us to be reintroduced to the Ye family characters that were more prominent from the start of the series.
2. From a production POV if was trippy to have them tie up loose ends in the dream. It's one of the few times where I've seen a "dream sequence" done so effectively & ties the beginning to the end so beautifully. Then to have TTJ + LSS reunite under the fireworks scene, which really is a visual metaphor of what motivates TTJ at the end to sacrifice himself for a better world, my soul was just happy to see they could express such "love" for each other then knowing it's near the end of their relationship.
I mean I feel like I only scraped the surface of how meaningful that dream sequence is, I swear the production was let down by the sudden censorship of only 40 episodes when it's clear so much effort has been put in for a 50+ episode series. Cannot credit the planning + bts work of the series enough!
Okay guys have been a lurker here for the longest time but my instincts are screaming at me & I feel compelled to share. Dont know what the drama gods have in plan, but I feel so strongly that hao yi xing will drop within the week. Get ready.
Tencent just released a montage of their summer hits over the years and teasing what’s next. Whatever is coming up next will definitely be big. My bet is on their S+ drama Hao Yi Xing.
