The "self worth" that only applies to the fl. She was going to marry Yan Xun at the end of PA and only stopped because Yan Xun used her to try and kill the ml. If that was the ml marrying the sfl we'd all want him to grovel for 40 eps to win her back yet here they are setting up a scenario where the ml will have to chase after her again while she pushes him away.

I hope this isn't going to leave me feeling like the "feelings"/love between ml and fl are imbalanced.…
But based on screen time, I should think of this more as a female centric drama with the fl being the sole protagonist and the ml being the biggest support character. If I think about it that way then it makes sense and won't annoy me

Yeah, there isn't really any romance so far. I just don't agree with framing it like she's, '19 years old doing a "lukewarm" romance cdrama?'. That's misinformation.

You're being disingenuous. She was 17 when the drama started and finished filming. The booting ceremony was december 2024 and wrap up was April 2025. The entire drama was filmed when she was 17.

It's very similar to the drama with Ai Mi and Hou Minghao, she is currently 17 and if nothing out of the norm happens, by the time the drama comes out she will be either 19 or close to it. Just like with rebirth, the person on screen is 17 with someone a decade older than them.

I think it's fair to feel uncomfortable because of that but I don't think either of the actors are to blame for it.

I never fully agree with the people calling MLs simps and insulting them, but after the last 2 episodes the ml here deserves it. I had no expectations and was still disappointed by the way he acted after the break up especially in contrast to the fl who was the actual problem in everything.

Kdrama writers should really give their MLs some self respect. The ml called himself pathetic and I couldn't agree more, atleast he's self aware. Wtf does he mean he will wait?? I couldn't believe my ears. He deserves the sadness and loneliness that's to come.

What C dramas would you recommend? It's hard to know where to start
It honestly depends on what you're looking for. For one with a similar premise to this but more focused on the healing and development of the lead's relationship is, "The first frost".
On Still Shining 16 days ago
Why would you drink with your ex that you just broke up with, stay the night with said ex, all while your relationship is in a very volatile state? I get that they were close friends before dating but if you are in a relationship and you want to commit, it's your responsibility to ensure the relationship is protected. The very least she could have done is inform the ml of the situation through text and that is the bare minimum at floor level. She failed to set boundaries and that's what broke them up.

can someone recommend similiar drama? it may be chinese as well
The first frost. Similar premise of the fl separating with the ml somewhat harshly because of circumstances in her life. They then meet again after about 5 years. For now, I prefer Thevfirst frost more compared to still shining because 1) I think the reason for the fl seperating with the ml was very justified and 2) Even though she had a good reason, she still feels very remorseful, she acknowledges that she hurt him badly. I also just like the progression of their relationship after they reunite.

why...?
I think the hate comes from many recent kdramas making it so that fl dates and ml doesn't. It feels lopsided. It would be fine if one or two did it but a lot of recent kdramas I've tried do this.

Did the FL and 2nd ML get in a relationship after she dumped the ML, and now the FL and ML are getting back together?
Yes. Don't know about fl and ml getting back together anytime soon. Honestly getting a bit uncomfortable that the breakup between fl and 2nd ml is finalized at the same time that she starts getting "close" to the ml again.

I honestly don’t get the hate for this drama. Coming from someone who prioritises chemistry and romance over…
Problem with the "romance" is that it was very one sided. Even after the misunderstanding was cleared, it was still mainly one sided from the ml's side. Maybe I've forgotten but I don't remember ever thinking the fl was truly in love with the ml when it was airing, there were just signs from time to time

Genuinely curious on why the fl didn't give the ml even a tiny bit of reassurance in ep29? She instead did the opposite by giving him "closure".

Even if for whatever reason she didn't want to tell him her plans, at the bare minimum why couldn't she just tell him she didn't plan to actually marry the Yan guy? I genuinely don't get this part, was there any reason to make him believe even more that she was marrying someone else?

Just about to start episode 18. At which episode does LJL become the foolish guy? Is it really that one sided?…
Ep28 and it's completely lopsided. Everything the ml does is for the fl. On the fl's side, so far there's only one instance where her love didn't feel calculated. She is seemingly getting married to someone else in ep 29..again lol. There will obviously be circumstances that explain it but still.

If the "marriage" doesn't have a plan they both worked on/know about, I'm probably gonna drop. The other things in the drama may all be good but their relationship hasn't developed enough for me and that's the main thing I was looking forward to.

I find more cdramas have far more balanced relationships than kdramas. I tried a few popular kdramas last year…
I disagree with that first part. Kdrama romances suck imo. It's usually very one sided. It's as if kdrama FLs are not allowed to express their love for the ml at all. Even the romance cdramas with lopsided relationships, I don't ask myself whether the fl actually loves the ml or not at the end. It's the opposite with kdramas because even when the leads are finally together, the fl doesn't express her love in a way that doesn't feel superficial.

Love rival...typical.

Wish more kdramas had 2nd and/or 3rd couples to fill up time instead of love triangles and every dumb, annoying trope linked to them. Will hold out until that's resolved before deciding on whether I continue or not.

Cdrama MLs are just competing in the 'who can simp the hardest' Olympics 🏅What do you mean you’d give up…
I find more cdramas have far more balanced relationships than kdramas. I tried a few popular kdramas last year and every single one of them had the ml basically providing 99.9% of the "love" in the relationship. Kdrama MLs are just left with no dignity at all when pursuing the fl

Admittedly this one is also extremely lopsided but a lot usually aren't this lopsided from my experience. I honestly wish we got to see more of them scheming/guarding against each other after the ml regained his memories instead of him just being head over heals for her.

is anyone else irritated with the grandmother? for a matriarchal family this grandmother is very annoying by not…
That's actually somewhat common. I remember in new life begins, the ml was made the "whetstone" for the crown prince by their father. The leaders don't view their family as actual family, the only one that matters is the heir and they will do everything to make them a worthy heir. I wouldn't be surprised is the grandmother is the one who made almost all the fl's sisters isolate her to try and make the fl a stronger heir. She's the one keeping the "potential" husbands around despite some of them having committed serious crimes against the Rong family and the fl having already chosen a husband. It's all because she believes the Yan guy will bring more benefits and be a better support for the fl.

Another recent one is Fated hearts. The emperor puts the ml through hell and does nothing to help him, all because he thinks it makes the ml a better heir/ruler.
