I've created a discussion thread for people assuming or wondering if LOA & TLB or Dilraba's characters in both are the same. Feel free to add your insights or opinions.
For me, never once was I frustrated with Changge's character honestly. All her decisions and impulsive moves made…
I know right? What's their point in calling her reckless, impulsive & stubborn or even selfish when she gave up her blood feud & revenge just for the overall good of the people, country & even took all blames on herself for all the actions she took with consequences, not to mention she even took a dagger for her killer just to keep him alive for the balance of power needed for the welfare of people. Selfish? Stubborn? Reckless? Impulsive? Do we even know the words right? XD
Everyone saying it's not a similar role like doing a bunch of pseudo-historical romances about girlbosses falling…
If you're gonna boil it down to girl bosses pursuing revenge & falling in love, then ofc everything will seem the same to you when you're gonna ignore the whole plot, setting, character & dynamics because there will be at least 100 dramas or movies with a theme as "revenge" including the most highly revered Nirvana in Fire. The synopsis of TLB & LOA essentially misdirects people to think they're similar but these two diverges from each other distinctly.
Also, Dilraba has done enough cutesy roles in the past in different settings & stories, nobody talked about typecasting, but doing two dramas with just a similar theme "revenge" but essentially different content makes her typecast?
True! If there is chemistry between the leads and the acting is good then the age / age gap shouldn’t matter…
Wu Lei and Dilraba, surprising everyone, created one of the best chemistry in The Long Ballad, also the way he plays a general is in my opinion (and many more I believe) like he was born for it.

Exactly. For Changge, it wasn't just revenge at all cost, 1. She had to take accounts of the cost of her decision. 2. She had to bear the responsibility of a princess even when her nation disregarded her, she didn't forsake her identity and acted accordingly. 3. She came to terms with her final realization & decision of peace. But all these, at the cost of losing everything but still making sure to accomplish the greater good. If that's what's reckless & stubborn about her, that's the best virtue I've seen, no matter how old she is. I don't think anyone older would essentially do it better than her.

Yup, all those micro expressions of the inexpressive Changge are portrayed fantastically, unforgettable indeed. I've come across lots of people saying how wooden she's here, bro, isn't the character of Changge the kind of complex and layered one, which can explored through layers and layers to go deeper into her heart? Is she the kind to be overexpressive extrovert and flamboyant type? Not at all.
Finished! I really liked this drama, especially because of Ashile Sun. Leo Wu really took this drama to another…
For me, never once was I frustrated with Changge's character honestly. All her decisions and impulsive moves made sense to me, its like I understood her thoroughly. Even what people find impulsive isn't necessarily impulsive but calculated far-sightedly on her part weighing the pros and cons. Its not just about her age or anything, even if we consider she's 20 years or older, do all the brilliance and intelligence and survival feats she portrayed lose their charm? No. She was a charm, through and through. Her expressions, recklessness and stubbornness, everything made her character just as much charming to me. People kind of tend to pass a judgement on her character being frustrating just because of one biased perspective, standing on other's shoes. She's actually a very interesting character to me. A brilliantly written+portrayed one at that.

I low-key ship Gu Yiye and Jiang Nan Zheng :')
