This drama suffers from misleading marketing. It's really a legal and business drama first and foremost. The contract romance is really only a side dish. Honestly the industry needs to stop promoting dramas as romance centric when they're not.
My first completed HK drama since my teens. Could be a lot worse but it definitely could have been better if it didn't get utterly bogged down by unnecessary melodramatic tropes. The potential was there but it ended up being a noisy (unnecessary amount of screaming matches), sometimes messy crime show that makes clumsy attempts to integrate the FL's arc with the main romance as well as her adversarial relationship with the female villain of the story. I don't mind the HK Illuminati angle but the show relies uncomfortably on people running high on emotions that see them making elementary errors. Moreover the "love conquers all" insertion into the narrative feels rather hackneyed... And preachy.
The team work is really good in this show. It's the drama's most obvious strength. This includes the way it incorporates the hospital and the medical examiner.
i'm on ep 2 and the boss has a fetish for women in cheap heels??????????? 💀
I think it's more the case that he likes women from working class backgrounds because that's where he came from. That was fairly clearly spelt out by him or someone else in the show.
Speaking from my perspective, Min-yeong is an antidote, a breath of fresh air to all the self-serving antagonists in this story. There's no self-awareness in the Jin siblings. They are entitled, self-indulgent cretins. It's obvious that even without Do-jun's interventions, the company will eventually fall apart under their watch. Do-jun is doing God's work actually -- he's single handedly saving the company from these overfed snobs who are resting on their father's laurels. Jin Yang-cheol is a great visionary at least even if he's a terrible father. His children have some cunning but they don't have long-term perspective to grow Soonyang.
Min-yeong at least can look at herself in the mirror, see her own faults and learn from them. That gets respect from me. It's obvious why Do-jun likes her and why he's always respected her. The fact that he chose her over Hyun-min speaks well of him. Her struggle to be recognized as a prosecutor among men in her own right is also a fascinating historical footnote for that period. There's no comparison between her and Jae-hee from Cafe Minamdang who was a badly written character.
I'm keen to see how they explain this because it's not strictly regression soul transmigration. Unless they're saying they're saying that they're only doppelgangers.
Thanks for reading anyway.
