My comment wasn't really based on if this is trope was over done or not. It was more about the understanding of why her character is like that and what the writer was trying to do.

I think that's actually the whole point of her character. She supposed to be chaotic and not composed to display that she is not from the city and that she doesn't fit the imagery of what they deem as how Shanghai city people act like.

I do think the plot is strong enough even with friendship. But I also would absolutely love the Main leads to get together. I also ask what people consider as romance. Because I think they have been hints of romance. Any time the main leads are together, there is that spark there. Whether these moments actually become a sure final thing and they become a couple, I guess we might have to wait and see. 🙂

Watched ep 16 😭. They have so much chemistry. The piano scene. Them just being in the same room, one can just feel the spark between and a atmosphere between. It's like there's something unsaid. Just friends wouldn't have that type of tension when they are together. And then their conversation. I always love their conversations so comforting and so warm and flows very easily.
I love them together 😭.

Exactly! The second encounter, They did really focus on his expression, he seemed so mesmerized by her piano playing 😭 It was so cute! I wondered too, if they were showing that he was drawn to her too.

The person that commented saying the director implied that their just friends. I won't believe it until the last episode 😂. Some directors like to throw people off the scent, maybe the director was also being sarcastic, haha. I also don't think a director will give away their whole story arc. They want to keep people guessing. They may say they are friends but the director might not want to reveal they become more than friends.

I was preparing my heart to just settle for a friendship but the hints or teasing are not subtle, so now I am just hoping it becomes true.

And I loved the mukbang. I think that was also another pivotal moment in their connection.

Just have to get through the heartbreak of ep 14 and 15 from what I have heard.

Haven't watched ep16. But after even ep 12 the clothing store scene and ep13 the new year dinner. I definitely think there is something romantic going on between them. I think Rue Lai for sure has a crush on her. The way he said in ep 12 that jinzhen is pleasant looking with the cute smile he always has on his face then Mr Shen noticing the obvious avoidance of using the word beautiful saying like he actually is giving himself away of his true feelings and what he actually thinks, which he thinks she is beautiful. Then EP 13 the whole dinner teasing of them pairing them together and ruolai blushing and speaking highly of jinzhen again. Then even the fireworks balcony conversation and lingering eye contact at the end. I think the writer is giving hints. I think even conversation at the dinner table of them teasing that ruolai will marry jinzhen, I think that is possibility of foreshadowing. Even how it was just them standing at balcony alone in the end.
To be honest I am just happy to have such interactions between them and to see them get close.

This is a 38 episode drama. We still have 28 episodes. So anything can happen at this point. Might be a slow burn or a strong connection or strong friendship that builds.

This drama is really good.I am now watching ep5. I heard people say there's no romance yet? But I guess it's a 38 episode drama, so there's still so many episodes. If not romance, do you think there is a possiblity of friendship building between Rua Lai and Jin Zhen?

The sad thing is you have ruined this drama for yourself by assuming it's about a real life situation. But let me repeat these are your assumptions, they are not fact. The writer is simply trying to reverse the roles. Normally in dramas it's the FL who is poor and marries into a rich family but the writer simply just wanted to have a story where the ML is poor and is the one who marries into a rich family. Let me ask a question, would people assume that every story that is about a poor man marry into a rich family is about Samsung group. No one can assume that. So are you saying no one can ever do poor man marrying into rich family???

You yourself have gone attached a story that has nothing to do with this drama, that is why many people are perplexed by your review.

He might not be playing a new character. He might have just changed his name in order to hideaway, but might be the same person.
