It’s okay, that’s pretty normal. This site (MDL) is mostly used by international viewers, and their taste usually leans more toward idol dramas (more visuals, less focus on the story). Meanwhile, more serious dramas like Wild Bloom don’t really appeal as much to international audiences. But in mainland China, it was actually very successful. It even got nominated at the Magnolia Awards, and Zhao Liying was nominated for Best Actress too.

I agree with you. I think Pursuit of Jade is good, but not a masterpiece. For me, true masterpieces are dramas like Empresses in the Palace (2012), Nirvana in Fire (2015), Joy of Life S1 (2019), and Joy of Life S2 (2024).

Well, this drama actually has multiple layers. Episodes 1–13 focus on the complicated, lie-filled relationship between Xu Yan (FL) and Shen Haoming (ML). Xu Yan hides her family background, while Shen Haoming keeps using and controlling Xu Yan for his business interests.
In episodes 14–15, both of their lies start to unravel.
From episodes 16–32, the story moves into the healing phase. They begin to take off their masks, open up to each other, and grow as individuals through their respective careers. You can really feel the character development in this part. I think episodes 16–32 are the core of the whole drama, both the ML and FL show great personal growth in their own ways.

If you were following it back then, you’d know just how massive and nasty the sabotage by Lusi’s rival studio was. Their drama aired at the same time, and if you tried searching for The Story of Pearl Girl on any social media, you wouldn’t even find it — only the other drama (the one airing at the same time) would show up. On top of that, they massively downvoted The Story of Pearl Girl’s rating by giving it 1-star reviews (on Douban). Seriously disgusting.
