Well, this drama actually has multiple layers. Episodes 1–13 focus on the complicated, lie-filled relationship between Xu Yan (FL) and Shen Haoming (ML). Xu Yan hides her family background, while Shen Haoming keeps using and controlling Xu Yan for his business interests.
In episodes 14–15, both of their lies start to unravel.
From episodes 16–32, the story moves into the healing phase. They begin to take off their masks, open up to each other, and grow as individuals through their respective careers. You can really feel the character development in this part. I think episodes 16–32 are the core of the whole drama, both the ML and FL show great personal growth in their own ways.
Yeah, maybe. But it’s not that simple. This happened while The Story of Pearl Girl was airing. If you were following it back then, you’d know just how massive and nasty the sabotage by Lusi’s rival studio was. Their drama aired at the same time, and if you tried searching for The Story of Pearl Girl on any social media, you wouldn’t even find it — only the other drama (the one airing at the same time) would show up. On top of that, they massively downvoted The Story of Pearl Girl’s rating by giving it 1-star reviews (on Douban). Seriously disgusting.
I agree! I still remember what happened to The Story of Pearl Girl’s rating back then. It suddenly dropped from 8.9 to 8.2 in less than two hours! So many hater accounts (newly made ones) popped up out of nowhere and started bombing the rating in such a short time. 😤
