It’s probably more cost effective for Netflix to lease the dramas for streaming than it is to get involved with…
Before I started watching cdrama the sheer number of episodes were daunting, now I feel skeptical when it’s under 30.
You may be right in your reasoning, shorter dramas are probably cheaper to produce as well. But the domination of streaming should make longer shows less of a “problem”, than fitting it in a tv schedule.
And I really like that most chinese and korean shows are 1 season. 1 season 70 episodes is better than 7 seasons with 10 episodes each.
I wouldn’t say she is the best actress, she is definitely more than ok. But her best trait is her ability to…
That is a positive thing for you. The worst situation is a good drama (or potentially good drama) ruined by bad actors (or actors I don’t like). But if there is a drama I’m not interested in with actors I don’t like, I can just ignore that and be happy (not that I am particularly happy, but you get the point; prolonged happiness is a gentle insanity anyway).
Overall this was a great show, not perfect, but good actors and the main characters are great. Some characters, mostly one, gets a terrible development in classic cdrama fashion. It was so bad I suspected that he was only pretending; that was not the case. (I didn’t think he was super interesting in the beginning either, but I enjoyed the way their first arc played out).
Then I must say the ending felt abrupt. It would have been nice with ep41, a little wind me down. The ending was predictable (broad strokes), so it would’ve been nice with a little aftermath.
I wouldn’t say she is the best actress, she is definitely more than ok. But her best trait is her ability to choose entertaining dramas. What good is a good actor who can’t find a good drama?
Her petite frame makes her actual age more hard to believe. If someone told me that the male lead was 7 years older than her I would’ve said that he looks 10 years older, in reality they are 3 years apart.
Today it’s possible and pretty easy to rely on cgi/ai to make actors older or younger. But I do prefer when they make use of make up and our imagination.
In episode 30/31, when Consort Yue makes her grand entrance, is own of my favorite scenes of the entire show. It is so cathartic. Great actor, great character.
i loved this drama, both parts but I did not like how they kept the 2 leads seperated so much for so long over…
That was my biggest complaint the first time I watched it as well. The second time it didn’t bother me as much. The third time I didn’t mind. The actors are so good, they carry the regret with proper weight. Often times in a drama, they throw in a 4 years later, and when the characters meet, it’s like it’s been 4 hours. It’s definitely not my favorite plot device, but in this drama it’s well made at least.
I think the “reclaim her destiny” line is misguiding. It’s not like she sets out to “win him back”. She only wants to build a beautiful life for herself and her foster parents.
I think it’s a great show. Great actors, and the absolute hallmark of a great show; all the villains have redeeming qualities and circumstances.
I think this show could have benefited from more episodes, because it spans across so many years. It’s a beautifully made top class cdrama.
First time I saw it I hated it. But I’ve rewatched it several times, both the series as a whole and that last episode. Now I can say: I can understand why the writers put it in. It lets them start anew. But, even if their acting is on point, I would’ve preferred a different last episode.
Ep24 remaining review. I just don't understand some parents. She was the one who chose to ignore miao jing. She…
I think it was a Dave Chapelle joke: being broke is being broke, being poor is a state of mind. Suddenly having money doesn’t mean you’re not poor, if you understand what I mean.

At this point, I would be sadder if they released it and it was anything other than great. If it is a lukewarm show, I hope they never release it.
